In the most recent J.D. Power wireless customer care study, Ultra Mobile did not find itself within the top margins for customer service satisfaction among the "value" MVNOs. This is just shy of the segment average of 822 points. This seems consistent with the carrier's TrustPilot reviews, as its overall score is below average (1.4 stars). However, most people admittedly only turn to service reviews to share complaints rather than to extol superior service, so without categorical data from an impartial third party, it’s difficult to assess Ultra Mobile’s actual customer experience.
Ultra Mobile offers excellent coverage on T-Mobile's nationwide 4G LTE and 5G networks—without paying T-Mobile-caliber prices. Plus, the carrier makes it easy to choose which plan is right for you, with options to choose from monthly, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month packages that include features as simple as just talk and text, all the way to unlimited data. All of Ultra's data plans include free mobile hotspot access, and you can also get international calling credits to keep in touch with friends and family outside the United States.
You also have access to a wide selection of the latest smartphones when you're in the market for a new device, including iPhones, Samsung Galaxy devices, and Google Pixel phones.
Ultra Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator, which means they provide service using another carrier's towers. Fortunately for Ultra Mobile, it's backed by T-Mobile's nation-leading 5G network, along with its robust 4G LTE network. You'll have strong service in cities and suburban areas, but for rural and remote customers, coverage will be spottier, as T-Mobile's network is known to be relatively weak outside of urban areas.
Switching to an Ultra Mobile phone plan is easy—you can even bring your own phone with you to the network as long as it is compatible. You can keep your phone number when you switch to Ultra, or you can opt to receive a new one along with your plan. Once you've chosen your phone plan, you'll either receive a new SIM card in the mail or you'll get instructions on how to activate your phone's eSIM. Then voila—you're done!
Ultra Mobile offers plans from unlimited data options to smaller data packages, as well as a talk-and-text-only plan. Outside of access to use your phone as a hotspot, you won't find any additional bells and whistles on these plans, like streaming services or cloud storage—but the tradeoff is low plan prices that won't break your budget. You can switch plans at any time since Ultra Mobile doesn't require any contracts for their phone service.
