I started using Flighty in 2024 because I was tired of ex post facto updates from Delta and Southwest. There's nothing worse than getting to the airport and seeing delayed (or canceled) next to your flight number. Fed up with airline misinformation (some may even say negligence), I needed an app with up-to-date information.
Flighty uses live Air Traffic Control data to predict delays and disruptions before your airline sends you an official alert. By the time you get that automated email or text from your carrier, Flighty has already been tracking the problem for a while. That small detail makes a world of difference when you're trying to rebook or meet someone at arrivals. Flighty's accuracy is what makes it one of the best travel apps of all time.

What is Flighty?
Flighty is a flight-tracking app for iOS that follows your flight information and monitors it in real time using live Air Traffic Control data. Just add in your upcoming flights, and Flighty keeps watch so you don't have to constantly worry. It sends you gate notifications, baggage claim alerts, and heads-up warnings about delays before your airline acknowledges anything officially.
This app also has a Flighty Friends feature that lets you track your family and friends' flights. I've personally used this feature on family trips when we catch different flights and land at different times. That way, you can see where their plane is without texting them every hour to ask if they've landed yet.
Not sure how to update your apps?
Keeping your apps up to date ensures you're always getting the latest features, bug fixes, and security improvements. Learn how to update the apps on your iPhone and your Android. It takes less time than you think.
What makes Flighty different
Most flight-tracking apps just show you a map of where the plane currently is. Flighty goes further and integrates airport notifications and Live Activities. More specifically, it adds in the scheduled gate for the flight's arrival, as well as what baggage claim stall your suitcases should be at.

What I didn't expect to find as useful as I did is the flight history. The free version tracks the previous 12 months, but Pro unlocks your entire history—and yes, that means every flight you've even been on. I manually added every flight I still had information for, going back to 2018. The All-Time Flighty Passport shows I've flown 34,167 miles on 11 airlines to 22 airports. That kind of data isn't essential for your trip, but it's interesting to look back on.
The best feature for casual travelers is Flighty's delay warnings. Airlines wait until the last possible moment to send an official notification, but Flighty doesn't. It sees delays building up and bad weather sitting over your destination, and it tells you while there's still time to make a plan B.
Flying internationally? Your phone plan needs to keep up
Flighty is most useful when you can check it on the go, including at layovers in foreign airports. If your current plan doesn't include international data, you could be stuck hunting for airport Wi-Fi right when you need an update most.
Check out the most popular carrier plans that include international data and find one that travels with you.
Is Flighty Pro worth paying for?
I don't plan on cancelling my Flighty Pro subscription anytime in the near future. If you fly several times a year and want a detailed record of every flight you've ever taken, Pro is worth it. The annual subscription breaks down to around $5/month, which is easy to justify if you find yourself actually using the flight history and stat breakdowns.
If you need a flight tracker for one or two trips and plan to delete the app when you land, the free version handles the important stuff just fine. You get real-time tracking, gate and baggage alerts, and the proactive delay warnings that make Flighty worth downloading in the first place.
Download it free, use it on your next trip, and then decide.
