Does US Mobile use the same network as T-Mobile?
T-Mobile’s network is one of the three networks US Mobile uses, along with Verizon’s and AT&T’s. US Mobile lets you pick which one you want, then switch later (with TelePortal) if you go outside your coverage area and need to connect to a different network. If you choose US Mobile’s Light Speed network, you connect to T-Mobile's towers. The other two US Mobile options are Warp (Verizon network) and Dark Star (AT&T network).

Which carrier is better?
For most people, US Mobile’s budget-friendly plans are better. The Unlimited Starter plan costs $25/month and includes more premium data than T-Mobile's $60/month Essentials plan, and the Unlimited Premium plan at $44/month rivals T-Mobile plans—for a fraction of the cost. US Mobile also gives you the option to run on AT&T or Verizon instead of T-Mobile, which no single-network carrier can beat.
That said, T-Mobile offers the best plan perks among any carrier, including international data, free streaming services, and satellite texting. Plus, you can get it all at a reasonable price if you sign up for a family plan. For example, a family of three can pay as little as $56/line for T-Mobile’s most expensive plan with all the bells and whistles.

US Mobile's rating details
US Mobile's biggest strength is price. Sr. Staff Writer Max McCaskill spent a month testing the Unlimited Starter plan and found it delivered more data and a larger hotspot allowance than competitors charging the same $25/month.
However, he noted US Mobile keeps trimming perks that used to come included, which is why value only scores a 3 out of 5. Coverage held up well in cities but struggled in rural stretches on the T-Mobile network specifically, something the carrier's multi-network flexibility can offset.

T-Mobile's rating details
T-Mobile's biggest strength is its plan perks, but they come at a high price (especially if you only want a single line). Our testers Daphne Kelly and Adam Roach found T-Mobile's Essentials plan pricey at $60/month, and its top Experience Beyond plan budget-breaking at $100/month. That said, both testers were happy with the reliable speeds and top-notch coverage in their home cities, plus the convenient perks like unlimited premium data, Netflix, and Hulu on the top-tier plans.

Comparing the two carriers' entry-level unlimited plans really highlights the price gap. So much so that US Mobile includes more data and perks for less than half the price of T-Mobile’s cheapest plan.
If you need a lower-cost mobile plan, US Mobile is the smartest choice.
- US Mobile's Unlimited Starter plan costs $25/month and includes 70GB of premium data (unlimited if you pick the Dark Star network), plus a 10GB hotspot (or 20GB on Dark Star).
- T-Mobile's Essentials base plan costs $60/month for 50GB of premium data and no dedicated high-speed hotspot at all.
However, if you step up to the top-tier plans, T-Mobile’s included plan perks can’t be beaten.
- US Mobile's Unlimited Premium plan is $44/month for unlimited premium data on any of its three networks, a 50GB hotspot (100GB on Dark Star), and up to 20GB of international data.
- T-Mobile's closest match and best plan offering, Experience Beyond, costs $100/month, but includes more entertainment perks. You get unlimited premium data, unlimited hotspot, free Netflix and Hulu subscriptions, plus 30GB of data to use in Mexico and Canada, 15GB more of international data, and T-Satellite service too.
You can also snag free subscription services from US Mobile, but you have to sign up for at least three lines to access them.
Why is US Mobile so much cheaper than T-Mobile?
US Mobile doesn't own a network, which means it doesn’t have to pay for cell tower maintenance and repairs, passing those savings on to you. The carrier rents access to T-Mobile's towers instead of building and maintaining its own infrastructure.
Plan perks: T-Mobile offers more entertainment perks for the whole family
T-Mobile includes Netflix and Hulu on its Experience plans, and Experience Beyond customers also get T-Satellite service free of charge. T-Mobile's satellite-based texting and location services tap into Starlink’s network as a safety net in dead zones so you can contact emergency services or family members. Alternatively, you can add it to other T-Mobile plans for an extra $15/month.
US Mobile includes built-in international data allotments on its unlimited plans, but for even more perks, you need more lines. With three or more lines on the monthly Unlimited Premium plan, you choose your choice of streaming subscription between Netflix, Hulu, or Spotify. T-Mobile offers the best multi-line discounts to lower its prices, while US Mobile keeps things straightforward with flat pricing per line.

When you compare larger family accounts, the price gap between the two carriers shrinks.
- Four lines on US Mobile's Unlimited Premium plan cost $176 per month total at $44 per line.
- Meanwhile, four lines on T-Mobile's Experience More plan run $170 per month total at $42.50 per line.
That makes T-Mobile's Experience More tier slightly cheaper for a four-line family than US Mobile's top plan. Even T-Mobile's highest tier, Experience Beyond, comes out to $215 per month for four lines or $53.75 per line, bringing it much closer to US Mobile's total monthly cost.
US Mobile still offers a nice incentive for accounts with three or more lines on the Unlimited Premium plan. You get your choice of a free streaming perk (like Netflix, Hulu, or Spotify) included with your service. T-Mobile counters by bundling both Netflix and Hulu into its Experience plans.

US Mobile's main coverage benefit is that it offers three separate networks on a single carrier.
US Mobile's Light Speed network vs. T-Mobile
When US Mobile customers pick Light Speed, they're using the same towers, the same 5G network, and the same coverage map as a direct T-Mobile customer. During our own testing, we found data speeds topped out around 350Mbps near a 5G tower on the Light Speed network. Our T-Mobile testers saw peak speeds of 174.86Mbps recorded closer to home. Both carriers offer fast speeds, especially when using the same network.
Why US Mobile's multi-network access matters
T-Mobile's 5G network covers roughly 41.25% of the country, more than any other single carrier, but it still has coverage gaps in rural areas. US Mobile solves the problem of dead zones because you can pick (and change) your network instead of being locked into only one. You can pick Warp (Verizon) for the country's largest 4G LTE footprint if you’re traveling across the country, or Dark Star (AT&T) for strong rural reliability.
You’ll also get different speeds depending on which network you choose; we saw speeds as fast as 488Mbps on the Dark Star network during testing, which is much faster than the Light Speed (T-Mobile) network.
US Mobile also lets you switch between networks during the month using its network transfer feature called TelePortal. It's a useful option if your current network isn't cutting it, but it does take time to transfer. In our testing, a network switch that was advertised as a 10-minute process took closer to two hours.
But if you don’t want to wait that long, you can also set up two simultaneous networks on your phone for fewer switches. Just use US Mobile’s Multi-Network add-on or dual active SIMs so you won’t lose service.

US Mobile vs. T-Mobile international roaming
Both carriers include some international roaming, but how much you get depends on which plan, and for US Mobile customers, which network you're on.
T-Mobile's Experience Beyond plan includes 30GB of Canada and Mexico roaming plus 15GB of international data in over 215 destinations. It's an automatic plan inclusion and activates as soon as you land or cross the border.
US Mobile’s Unlimited Premium plan includes 20GB of international data, while Unlimited Starter only includes 1GB annually unless you add more on. Plus, US Mobile's international coverage varies by network. Light Speed offers roaming in more than 180 destinations, Warp covers more than 125, and Dark Star covers more than 110. Max McCaskill tested Light Speed's international roaming firsthand in Aruba and had no trouble connecting the moment he landed.
If roaming is a priority and you're comparing the two carriers' top-tier plans, T-Mobile's includes more international roaming data plus extra data to use in Mexico and Canada.
Customer service
Both carriers scored the same for customer service, with positive experiences in all of our testing.
US Mobile is online-only, so you can’t walk into a store if you want in-person attention. During testing, phone and chat support were both quick to respond with helpful answers.
T-Mobile's Daphne Kelly had a similarly positive experience when she called T-Mobile for help with an account issue after the in-app chatbot couldn't handle it. T-Mobile's advantage here is that it also offers physical stores for customers who'd rather talk to someone in person, something no MVNO (including US Mobile) can offer.
Bottom line: US Mobile's price vs. T-Mobile's brand-name backing
Both carriers can deliver reliable, fast service, but they're built for different priorities.
US Mobile offers better budget value if you only need one or two lines and want the ability to switch network coverage while traveling domestically or across the country. The flexibility to hop between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile towers ensures you stay connected no matter where your travels take you. Single and dual-line accounts also save you money each month compared to major carrier rates.
Otherwise, T-Mobile provides super competitive pricing and overall better value when you set up a multi-line family plan. The Uncarrier bundles major streaming services, offers dedicated in-store customer support, and includes satellite messaging for off-grid coverage. T-Mobile's multi-line discounts seriously lower the price gap with US Mobile, making it the best choice for larger households.
