Halloween is the perfect time for spooky fun with your friends and family. But these days, people have higher expectations for spooky season than just the classic party games like bobbing for apples or guessing the number of candies in a jar. Luckily, you can use your phone to delight and scare your friends and family with these Halloween apps.

Some of the best multiplayer Halloween apps include Among Us and Mimicry. Fans of scary movies will love the Horror Movies Quiz Trivia Game. If you’re looking to decorate your phone for Halloween, you’ll find Walli is a great option. Finally, you can monitor your kids' trick-or-treat route with the Life360 app.

Let’s dive into the best apps for Halloween so you can make the most of this year’s Halloween season.

Life360—Best trick-or-treating app

  • Devices: iOS and Android
  • Cost: Basic service free, Gold and Premium services with monthly subscription

If you want to keep up with your kids while they’re trick or treating, Life360 is a great option. It’s a tracking app for your family’s phones. Once you create an account, you download the app onto everyone’s devices and it provides a live location for everyone to see. All you have to do is pull out your phone to see a live look at your kids’ location on their trick-or-treat route. This is one of the most popular tracking apps available.

It’s rated 4.5 on the Google Play store with over 2 million reviews. One user notes, "It's pretty accurate, and the free version is adequate for the time being, which is a massive bonus."

Halloween party game apps

Mimicry: Multiplayer Horror

Mimicry: Multiplayer Horror—Best Halloween game for large groups

  • Devices: iOS and Android
  • Cost: Free with in-game purchases

Mimicry: Multiplayer Horror is mobile game, but it works best with larger groups. You can play with up to nine people, and the game designates one player as a monster that mimics the other eight human players. Their goal is to eliminate all the other players. Everyone else is trying to win the game by discovering who the monster is or escaping.

Mimicry is easy to learn and has pretty decent graphics for a mobile game. It’s also highly rated, earning a 4.5 on the Apple App Store and Google Play store with thousands of ratings. One reviewer praises the spooky atmosphere of the game, saying, "Dark environments, eerie sounds, and sudden scares make the game immersive‏."

That said, this may not be the best game for younger kids. While it’s not as graphic as mature horror games, the app store recommends players be at least 12 years old.

Among Us

Among Us—Best Halloween game for kids

  • Devices: iOS and Android
  • Cost: Free with in-game purchases

Not everyone likes scary games, myself included. For those of us who need a tamer form of Halloween fun, Among Us is a great option. You can play a game with anywhere from four to fifteen players. The setup is a lot like Mimicry: Some players are secret alien monsters, and there are other players trying to discover who the monsters are or escape. Unlike the other games on this list, Among Us is a cartoon-style game. There is enough of an atmosphere to make it spooky at times, but it’s not scary and great for kids.

The game is incredibly popular and it even has a Halloween update every year with special outfits for the characters. It’s easy to learn and offers a ton of potential with different map options and game settings. The most difficult part of the game is deciding which members of your friends and family are the monsters.

The game is rated 4.1 on the iOS app store with over 800,000 reviews. It even has an Editor's Choice designation that calls out the fun mystery of the game: "Whether you’re a Crewmate making quick repairs or an Impostor taking out key systems (and unsuspecting players), each match is a riveting mystery."

Horror Movies Quiz Trivia Game logo

Horror Movies Quiz Trivia Game—Best Halloween movie trivia game

  • Devices: iOS
  • Cost: Free

If you’re a horror film buff, this next game is for you. The Horror Movies Quiz Trivia Game offers over 100 different trivia questions on some of the most famous horror movies of all time. The questions are shuffled every time, so each game is different.

You can test yourself or use the one-on-one multiplayer mode for a horror movie trivia tournament. You can use the app as your source of questions for a Halloween Jeopardy game. Whatever you decide to do, the app is easy to use and offers hours of fun.

Walli—Best Halloween wallpaper app

  • Devices: iOS and Android
  • Cost: Free with in-app purchases

Walli is one of the best apps to find great new wallpapers for your phone. It offers original artwork from thousands of artists around the world. You can even download these backgrounds at 4K quality. Walli is technically not a Halloween-specific app, though it has plenty of Halloween options. You can also find Christmas wallpapers and options for a ton of other holidays. If you frequently change your phone’s wallpaper for the season, this app is a must-have.

Do I have enough data for my apps?

For most of these apps, you’re going to need an internet connection to get the full experience. Phone apps use more data than almost any other function of your phone, so check out our data usage guide to figure out how much high-speed data you normally use. While needing a ton of data may not be a problem at home, you’ll need a data plan for anywhere you don’t have a free Wi-Fi connection. Luckily there are plenty of great unlimited plans you can take advantage of that won’t eat into your candy budget.

Smaller carriers called MVNOs offer service at discounted rates on the larger carrier’s networks. While they may not have as many perks, you can typically find solid plan options with plenty of priority data at a much friendlier price than the major carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Plus, these carriers usually offer access to 5G networks too, so you can count on having fast speeds.

Best phone plans for Halloween apps

Mint Mobile offers service on T-Mobile’s network. You can snag an Unlimited Data plan with 50GB of premium data and a 20GB mobile hotspot for just $30/month. You do have to prepay for at least three months in advance for Mint, but the overall cost is much cheaper than many other carriers. Plus, if you opt for the 12-month option, you can score an Unlimited plan for just $15/month ($180 upfront).
