TracFone is a Verizon-owned MVNO selling discounted services on all three major U.S. cellular networks. These network choices give customers access to the most powerful 4G and 5G networks in the country. Its customers value low prices over data and, for our picks, we did the same.
Our picks for the best TracFone plans include the carrier's Unlimited Talk, Text & 10GB plan, the Unlimited Talk, Text & 20GB plan, as well as the Unlimited Talk, Text & 4GB Plan. Read more to see why we think these are the best TracFone plans available right now.

Best Overall Tracfone Plan
TracFone has many smartphone plans and basic plans with only talk and text. This plan is our favorite of the bunch.
TracFone | Unlimited Talk, Text & 10GB Data Smartphone Plan | $30/month—Best overall TracFone plan
We think the biggest reason to buy a TracFone plan is to escape the high prices the major carriers charge for their plans. However, data is still important for many cellphone users. So, our pick for the best TracFone plan must strike a balance between price and data, which is why the 10GB plan at $30/month seems just about right to us. The average person will have to keep a close eye on their data usage, but with a little smart usage of Wi-Fi, they can get by on just that data allotment. If you go through that 3GB before 30 days are up, you can always refill your prepaid phone plan with more data.
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: Data cap is tight for average users
Best Tracfone plan for data
Low prices are the main reason people switch to TracFone, but the low data limits that come with most of its plans might not be enough for many smartphone users. Here is our pick for TracFone's best plan for data.
TracFone | Unlimited Talk, Text & 20GB Data Smartphone Plan | $40/month—Best plan for data
TracFone is not in the game of high data limits or even unlimited data. In fact, this 20GB is its largest data limit available. That's more than enough for the average person who uses about 3–5GB of data per month. It should also be just enough for moderate data users, especially if you supplement your data usage with Wi-Fi. At $40/month, this is also TracFone's most expensive monthly plan.
- Pros: Enough data for average to moderate users
- Cons: Most expensive Tracfone monthly plan
Best Tracfone Plan for low data
Mobile data might be very low on many TracFone customers' priority lists. Still, for many of these people, having some data is good for those times when they want to check email or look up something online, and they cannot connect to Wi-Fi. Here is our pick for the best TracFone plan for low data.
TracFone | Unlimited Talk, Text & 4GB Data Smartphone Plan | $20/month—Best plan for low data
There's nothing too complicated to tell here. This TracFone plan gets you unlimited talk minutes, unlimited text, and 4GB of data for just $20/month. That data limit will not be sufficient for all users, but for those who don't always have eyes glued on their phone screens, 1GB could do the trick.
- Pros: Inexpensive
- Cons: Not enough data for the average user

Methodology: How we picked the best TracFone plans
To pick TracFone’s best cell phone plans, WhistleOut carefully reviewed each of the MVNO's offerings. We primarily compared each plan to other TracFone plans, though we slightly factored in how they compared to plans from other carriers. Additionally, we placed a little more emphasis on price as TracFone does not have very generous data limits and primarily caters to those looking to save money on cell phone plans. WhistleOut regularly reviews each carrier's plans and will update these picks as necessary.
More TracFone plans
TracFone has many more plan options than those we chose to put on our list. We omitted any of TracFone's 365-day plans as the base rates for these plans did not bring the same value as the unlimited talk, text, and data-capped plans. However, we understand that different people look for different things from their cell phone service, and some people might find value in TracFone's other plans. Here is a more comprehensive look at all of TracFone's plans:

About TracFone
TracFone is an MVNO that sells service on all three U.S. major cellular networks (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon). Powered by a strong presence in retail spaces and a slew of subsidiaries such as Straight Talk, Total Wireless, Simple Mobile, and Net10 Wireless (among several others), TracFone is the biggest MVNO in the country. TracFone Wireless is itself a subsidiary of Verizon as of late 2021 after the major carrier purchased the MVNO from América Móvil. There are no announced plans of switching all TracFone customers to Verizon's network.
TracFone's network
TracFone piggybacks off of all three major networks. That means TracFone's coverage map includes the service areas found on the major carriers' maps. However, each TracFone customer will only receive service from one network. A customer's network access will depend on the strongest service in the area where they originally joined TracFone. Take a look at the map below to see how the major networks cover the country.

Who is TracFone for?
If you aren't looking for long commitments and a ton of mobile data, but rather, you're looking for a budget-friendly plan with flexibility, TracFone could be the carrier for you. TracFone is best suited for those who do not regularly use mobile data for gaming, video streaming or conferencing, school, or work. If you use your phone mainly for talking and sending texts, or you can consistently stay connected to trusted Wi-Fi, purchasing a TracFone plan could save you a lot of money. In our Tracfone review, we liked its choice of networks, affordable no- and low-data plans, and wide in-store availability.
