Any time you connect to the internet from your phone, you’re using mobile data. Whether you love watching YouTube and TikTok videos or you’re an Insta-influencer scrolling the day away, all of that data usage can add up quickly. If you’re on a limited data phone plan, going over your monthly data cap can result in pretty hefty overage fees—so it’s important to check your data usage.
For AT&T wireless customers, Big Blue makes it easy to check your data usage on your AT&T phone plan. You can use your web account, download the myAT&T app, or even text AT&T directly to see what your balance is. Let’s run through all of your options.
How to Check Your Data Use with AT&T
You can check your data usage on AT&T by:
- Using the myAT&T Account Portal.
- Using the myAT&T app.
- Texting AT&T.
- Using your phone's built-in data monitor.
You can see your current data usage for this billing period to determine how much you have left before your allowance resets. Note that fetching your usage stats directly from AT&T—either by using the text service, logging into your account online, or using the myAT&T app—can be more accurate and up-to-date than your phone's built-in data usage monitor.
Check Your myAT&T Account Portal
Checking your AT&T data usage online via your web account is very easy:
- Log into your AT&T account.
- Go to the Billing & Usage.
- Review your current data usage and how much you have left.
Use the myAT&T App
If you're using your mobile device, the native myAT&T app tends to offer a more seamless experience than the AT&T website. You can download the app for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPad, or from Google Play if you're using an Android handset.
Once you install the myAT&T app, open it up and:
- Log into your myAT&T account.
- Visit the Account section.
- Head to My Wireless Usage.
You'll see how much of your allowance you've used up during the current billing period, as well as how much data you have left. The app also provides a data usage estimate and tells you when your allowance resets.
Check AT&T Data Usage on Your Phone
There are also a few quick and easy ways to check your AT&T data usage straight from your iPhone or Android device, including requesting a text from AT&T and using your phone’s built-in data monitoring tool.
Text AT&T’s data monitoring service
AT&T can provide your data usage, account balance, and plan info by text after you dial a number via your dialer app. The number will differ based on whether your plan is prepaid or postpaid.
- For prepaid plans, call *777#
- For postpaid plans, call *3282#
- For Spanish, call *3286#

Then simply check your text messages for your data usage info.
Checking AT&T data use on an iPhone
If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can check your data usage on AT&T by following these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Scroll down to the Cellular Data section.

Here, you'll see how much data you've used during the current billing period, as well as how much data you've used while roaming (if any). You can then deduct this from your data allowance to work out how much you have left.
Checking AT&T data use on Android
If you're using an Android handset, the process to check your AT&T data usage may vary slightly depending on which phone you have (i.e., a Samsung Galaxy’s settings may differ slightly from a Motorola’s). That said, you’ll generally follow this process:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Data Usage.

You’ll see the total data used for the current billing period and how much data you have remaining.
Upgrading Your AT&T Data Plan
AT&T offers both limited data and unlimited plans—and for some users, just a few gigs of data is sufficient. But if you find yourself carefully managing your data usage every month to avoid going over your allowance, it may be time to think about switching to an unlimited data plan.
AT&T Unlimited plans
| Plan | Deprioritization | Features | Price (single line) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Value 2.0 | After 5GB | SD video 5G access 6 months of Google Stadia Pro |
/month |
| Extra 2.0 | After 100GB | SD video 5G access 6 months of Google Stadia Pro |
/month |
| Premium 2.0 | Never | 4K UHD video 5G access 6 months of Google Stadia Pro |
/month |
Plans like Premium 2.0—which provides the fastest possible data speeds, 4K video, and a 6-month subscription to Google Stadia—are perfect for those who enjoy heavy streaming sessions and download a lot of content. That said, it's pretty pricey at $85/month. If possible, take advantage of a multi-line discount on an AT&T family plan to bring that cost per line down.
For most users, we recommend the Extra 2.0 plan. At a cheaper $70/month for one line, it offers unlimited text, talk, and data with free 5G connectivity. You also get a whopping 100GB of high-speed “priority” data before AT&T will ever slow you down—this is plenty for all of your streaming and social app needs. For connectivity on the go, you’ll also enjoy 50GB of hotspot data, along with six months of free Google Stadia Pro.
AT&T’s Value 2.0 is the most budget-friendly unlimited option at $50/month. This plan also includes unlimited talk, text, and data and 5G access, and 5GB of premium data that will slow down after it is used up. You also get a modest 3GB of hotspot data. It also swaps HD for SD video streaming—not be the best option if you watch lots of YouTube or Netflix on your phone. That said, it’s much easier on the wallet and is a great solution if you’re not streaming all the live-long day.
