teacher looking at her phone in a classroom

In 2025, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T offer exclusive wireless phone plan discounts for teachers designed to support educators both in and out of the classroom. K-12 teachers, school board members, as well as college or university instructors, can qualify for cheaper unlimited data, hotspot access, and 5G connectivity. The Big Three’s professional discounts help make reliable service more affordable, whether you’re answering parent emails after hours, creating lesson plans on the go, or simply staying connected with family.

  • AT&T’s teacher discount is the best value for educators. Teachers get a 25% monthly discount on AT&T’s standard postpaid plans, the steepest discount for school staff currently available.
  • Verizon offers teachers a $5–$12.50 monthly discount, depending on how many lines you add. Contrary to most multi-line plans, the more lines on Verizon’s teacher discount, the lower the savings—except when you choose two lines. Max out at a $12.50/month discount with two lines on any of Verizon’s regular unlimited plans.
  • T-Mobile offers the cheapest plans, with two options priced at $35/month or $47/month. But there’s one condition: Your school has to activate the plan for you.

Read on to learn more about teacher discount eligibility, carrier-specific perks, and how to maximize your savings without compromising on coverage.

How to choose the best discounted phone plan as a teacher

Selecting the right discounted plan as a teacher isn’t only about saving on your phone bill, but picking the best classroom tool. While T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon all offer unlimited mobile plans for teachers, you should look for premium data and hotspot limits to decide which is the best for your budget.

Compare premium data

Premium data is important because it provides the fastest speeds, even during high-trafficked times. That means you won’t experience super-slow speeds at first and last period when everyone is checking their phones.

  • AT&T and Verizon offer unlimited premium data with their mid- and top-tier plans, while T-Mobile only includes 50GB. While that may be enough for an average phone user, heavy data users should opt for unlimited to avoid frustratingly slow speeds.

Why do I need hotspot data?

Hotspot data is another important perk to differentiate between carrier plans. Hotspot allowances let you connect and share data to other devices, so you can use your tablet or laptop when school Wi-Fi fails or grade on the go without being tied to home Wi-Fi.

  • Compare Verizon’s and AT&T’s top-tier plans. Both include 60GB of high-speed hotspot data. However, AT&T’s plan is $15.50/month cheaper than Verizon’s, for a total savings of over $186/year.

How can I qualify for a teacher discount?

T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T all offer discounts on teacher cell phone plans to active school board employees in K-12, college, or university positions across public and private educational centers.

To qualify, you’ll have to verify your current employment status by doing one of the following:

  • Show a valid employee ID.
  • Send in a letter from your employer within 30 days.
  • Attach a recent pay stub from your educational school or district.
  • Sign up with ID.me using your school email address.

You can choose to sign up with AT&T or Verizon in-store or online, but keep in mind that T-Mobile requires a phone call with an education expert to set up a plan.

Get up to 20% off with AT&T’s teacher discount

AT&T provides the most generous educator discount among major carriers, offering up to 20% off unlimited postpaid plans, including its Value 2.0 plan, mid-tier Extra 2.0 plan, and data-heavy Premium 2.0 plan. Since AT&T's discount isn't a flat percentage, the discount depends on the plan you choose.

  • For instance, the cheaper Value 2.0 plan runs average customers $50/month, while teachers pay $45/month, saving educators $5/month. But on AT&T’s top-tier premium plan, teachers pay $18/month less.

Save up to $12.50/month with Verizon’s teacher discount

With Verizon’s teacher discount, you can save between $5–$12.50/month on Verizon’s standard unlimited plans, but your savings vary depending on how many lines you add to your plan. Independent of which plan you choose, teachers save the most with two lines, maxing out at $12.50/month in savings. Whether you opt for Verizon’s Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus, or Unlimited Ultimate plan, the most you can save is $12.50/line on two lines.

Eligibility for Verizon teacher discounts includes actively employed, certified, or licensed K-12 and post-secondary teachers at a public or private school, college, or university in all states. Verizon verifies educator status through its ID.me platform initially and may reconfirm annually, so keep that school ID or pay stub nearby.

Verizon offers the most perk options

Although Verizon’s unlimited phone plans don’t include any streaming perks, Verizon lets you “Choose Your Perks” at a discounted price. For an extra $10/month each, you can choose from hotspot data, streaming subscriptions, and even international data to add to your plan. If you prioritize perks, then Verizon certainly offers the best phone plans for teachers.

Verizon’s discounted perks include:

  • 100GB mobile hotspot
  • Unlimited iCloud storage
  • 3 TravelPass Days
  • Disney Bundle (which includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select)
  •  Standard Netflix and HBO Max
  •  YouTube Premium Apple One (Apple bundle including Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more)
  • Apple Music Family

You may be wondering whether Verizon’s discounted perks are actually worth it, but we did the math and can confidently confirm that they are. These perks are perfect for teachers, so you can use them for documentary clips from Netflix or prep a Kahoot quiz with extra hotspot data.

Bundle and save on mobile and internet

Verizon extends its connectivity beyond phones with 5G Home Internet—giving teachers reliable broadband for virtual lessons, streaming, and grading at home. Wireless customers get discounted pricing starting at $35/month, backed by Verizon’s award-winning network. Check below to see if Verizon home internet is available in your area.

T-Mobile offers specialized teacher plans

T-Mobile is the only major carrier to offer teacher-specific plans instead of a discount on a standard postpaid plan. Choose between two straightforward options:

  • Plan 1 costs $35/month and includes unlimited talk, text, and 50GB of premium data, access to T-Mobile’s 5G network, unlimited mobile hotspot, and even a subsidized smartphone (up to $180 value).
  • Plan 2 is priced at $47/month and offers the same unlimited features as Plan 1, but upgrades to a better device subsidy (up to $400 value).

Both plans also offer education-grade content filtering as an optional add-on, just in case you screen-share in the classroom.

Unlike standard consumer plans, these are dedicated education offerings for currently employed teachers. But there’s one catch: Your school must activate the plan for you. I confirmed with a T-Mobile representative that in order to get a teacher plan through T-Mobile’s business discounts, your educational institution must sign you up. For more details, you can visit T-Mobile’s webpage and contact an education expert.

T-Mobile’s Work Perks

Another way to snag a discount on T-Mobile’s standard phone plans is through Work Perks. Teachers can get up to 15% off T-Mobile’s most popular plans, like Experience More or Experience Beyond.

To sign up, you’ll have to call T-Mobile or visit a nearby store. The only requirement is that you upload proof of employment through T-Life (T-Mobile’s app) within your first month of service.
