Ultra Mobile is an MVNO offering one of the largest numbers of plan options of any smaller carrier. Not only can you pick from six different data plans, but you can also select different lengths of time for each option. There are 24 combinations in total, meaning there's a plan for every need including those looking for affordable family plans. Ultra Mobile also includes mobile hotspot allotments and international perks with all of its data plans. All of this runs on T-Mobile's 5G network, which is one of the best in the nation and offers lightning-fast speeds to all of Ultra Mobile's data plans.

If you're on the fence about Ultra Mobile, check out our list of 10 reasons you should switch.

1. Phenomenal plan options

Ultra Mobile offers seven different data plans, putting it a step above some other MVNOs with more limited selections. This means that customers can find the perfect plan to fit their needs without overpaying for a massive data allotment they won't use.

Plans start as small as the Talk and Text plan with 250MB of data and stretch to the Unlimited Plan with unlimited premium data potentially deprioritizaed after 35GB/month. The best part is Ultra Mobile's plans are cheaper than many other options on the T-Mobile network, especially T-Mobile itself. Buy purchasing an annual plan, you can get Ultra's Unlimited Plan for as cheap as $32/month. T-Mobile's cheapest postpaid plan starts at $50/month and it only includes an extra 15GB of premium data.

You can see how all six plans shake out below:

Ultra Mobile single-month plans
Plan Data Mobile hotspot View plan
4GB Plan 4GB 4GB $19/mo
8GB Plan 8GB 8GB $24/mo
12GB Plan 12GB 12GB $29/mo
24GB Plan 24GB 24GB $39/mo
Unlimited Plan Unlimited (Premium) 10GB $49/mo

2. Generous premium data allotments

Premium data guarantees the fastest speeds available on your network. Ultra Mobile offers competitive premium data allotments with all of its plans.

If you don't use much data, you can save a lot by picking the 4GB Plan or the 8GB plan. Average users are served well by the 12GB Plan or 24GB Plan. If you exceed your allotments on any of these plans, Ultra Mobile won't charge you any overages (pretty cool right?). Instead, your data will be slowed down until the next month.

For those who need the most data, Ultra Mobile's Unlimited Plan offers a unlimited premium data. That's actually more premium data than some of the larger carriers' postpaid unlimited plans, like Verizon's Unlimited Welcome plan and AT&T's Unlimited Starter plan. However, you may notice slower speeds if you surpass 35GB/month. That said, it's really hard to use 35GB of data in a month, so exceeding your allotment won't be an issue for many customers.

3. Plan length options

Ultra Mobile is not the only MVNO to offer its plans in bulk, but it's still a great feature. Customers who know they'll be with Ultra Mobile for several months can purchase plans in blocks of 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. Not only does it mean you won't have to worry about renewing your plan for awhile, but Ultra Mobile offers a scaling discount for buying in bulk. The longer your plan period, the better your savings.

For example, customers purchasing the Unlimited Plan can save $120 per year just by purchasing a 12-month block instead of paying one month at a time. A single-month plan costs $49/month ($588/year), while the annual plan is only $40/month ($480/year). The caveat is you'll need to pay for the entire plan upfront. While that may seem expensive, it also means your savings are instant!

4. Unlimited family plan

Only Ultra Mobile's Unlimited plan is eligible for a multi-line discount, but it's a pretty solid deal that gets you extra lines for half off. You can add up to four additional discounted lines, meaning your total family plan is capped at five lines.

You'll pay full price ($49/month) for the first line. Each additional line costs $24/month.

The total cost per month looks like this:

Ultra Mobile Add-a-Line plan

Lines Total price
1 line $49/month
2 lines $73/month
3 lines $97/month
4 lines $121/month
5 lines $145/month

5. Mobile hotspot with all plans

Ultra Mobile offers mobile hotspot capability with all of its plans, which is something not every carrier can say. For the limited data plans, your hotspot usage is tied to your overall high-speed data allotment.

The Unlimited Plan's mobile hotspot allotment is capped at 10GB/month. This is plenty of hotspot data for average users. Like the limited plans, it's tied to your overall premium data allotment, which is great because that leaves you with plenty of data for your phone. Even if you managed to use all 10GB of mobile hotspot data, you'd still have 30GB of premium data left for the month.

6. Access to T-Mobile's 5G network

One of the best features of Ultra Mobile is access to T-Mobile's 4G LTE and 5G networks on the cheap. T-Mobile offers the largest 5G network in the nation and the fastest speeds in many cities.

7. International perks

Ultra Mobile includes free unlimited calling and texting to more than 90 countries. Considering that you have to pay extra for international calling with many other carriers, this is a great perk. The carrier also offers a three-week tourist plan with 3GB of data for people visiting the United States.

As for international roaming, Ultra Mobile makes it easy to purchase international credits with a plan add-on called UpRoam. You can buy blocks of international data in chunks of $5, $10, and $20.

8. Excellent phone selection

When switching to Ultra Mobile, you can bring your own device or buy a new device through the carrier. Ultra Mobile offers some of the most popular devices on the market today including devices from the Apple iPhone 15 series, Samsung Galaxy S23 series, and Google Pixel 8 series.

9. Useful Ultra Mobile app

Ultra Mobile offers an excellent free app for its customers that allows you to manage every aspect of your plan from the palm of your hand. You can see important information like how much data you have, the amount of credits in your account, and when your next plan renewal date is. Plus, you can easily top off your data or international credits if you're running low. The days of running to the store to buy more data are over.

The app is available on both the iOS store and Google Play store.

10. Great customer service options

We all need a little help sometimes and Ultra Mobile offers resources that are available around the clock. For big problems, its customer service number with live representatives is available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PST. For smaller problems or simple questions, Ultra Mobile offers an online chatbot and an extensive FAQ section on its website.
