Google Pixel 3a announcement and release dates

Today Google announced the newest Pixel to their lineup, and it's good news. It's the cheapest Google Pixel phone yet and half the price of most flagship phones, starting at just $399.

The phone is available for order today in three different colors:

  • Just Black
  • Clearly White
  • Purple-ish

Here's everything you need to know about Google's latest Pixel phone.

Google Pixel 3a Specs

With the cost of the phone being so much lower than other flagship phones, it's only natural to assume the quality of the phone will suffer. However, Google state that they haven't compromised on quality, with the main selling points of this phone (other than price) being:

  • The camera:
    • Super resolution zoom
    • High quality low-light photos (via Night Sight)
    • Portrait mode on both the front and rear cameras
  • Premium stereo sound
  • OLED display
  • 3.5mm audio jack (this not-so-subtle dig at Apple got a pretty big cheer from the crowd)

There are in fact, some downsides of this phone compared to the more expensive 3 and 3XL, including:

  • Slower processing speed
  • No longer dust and water resistant
  • More prone to cracked screens (no Gorilla Glass)
  • No wireless charging

Where to Buy the Pixel 3a

No longer are Google Pixels limited to just a few carriers. You can now buy the Google Pixel 3a from:

  • Google Fi
  • Verizon
  • T-Mobile
  • Sprint
  • U.S. Cellular

AT&T is the only major carrier missing from that list, but you can still buy an unlocked Pixel 3a from Google Fi outright and use your AT&T SIM card.

Cost of the Google Pixel 3a

The best part about the Google Pixel 3a is the price. Starting at just $399, it's the cheapest flagship phone out now, comparable to Apple's $999 iPhone XS and Samsung's $899 Galaxy S10.
