Samsung has unpacked its highly anticipated Galaxy Note9 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
With the new device, which will release on August 24, Samsung aims to rid users of common annoyances associated with smartphones. This promise is set to be delivered with big storage, a big battery, and a new S Pen.
Retail price for the Samsung Galaxy Note9 starts at $999.99 for the 128GB model, and $1,249.99 for the 512GB model.
Battery Life
Anxiety over battery life is a thing. Just ask anybody in a foreign location seeing red on their battery meter. According to Samsung, the Note9 will pack the largest (4,000mAH) and most powerful battery in a Note. This new battery is estimated to last an average smartphone user's entire day, easing the stress of losing power at an extraordinarily inopportune time.
Galaxy Note9 Storage
Gone are the days of being meticulous about what you keep on your phone. The Samsung Galaxy Note9's base model will come with 128GB of storage while the higher-tiered model will have 512GB. Both models, of course, are capable of storage expansion with external microSD card, and with a future launch of a 512GB card, Samsung is touting the possibility of getting over 1TB of storage on a new Galaxy Note9.
The New S Pen
Following a theme of turning something old into something new, Samsung has given new life to the Note's stylus with the latest version of the S Pen. Now integrated with Bluetooth, the S Pen has also become a remote control. With the S Pen you can remotely take control of various apps, your camera (perfect for setting up awkward selfies), music, video, and even other devices.
The S Pen will hold power for up to 30 minutes but takes less than 1 minute to get back up to full charge.
Other Samsung Galaxy Note9 Highlights
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Note9 will come loaded with two lenses. One Dual Aperture lens will detect the light and widen when dark to let more light in, or tighten when bright out to reduce the light coming into the shot.
Along with the two lenses and Dual Aperture technology, the Samsung Galaxy Note9 is equipped with Scene Optimizer which can detect several common picture subjects and change settings so that you get the best picture possible. There are 20 different modes that can be automatically enhanced.
Design and Colors
A knock on the Note9 is that it looks an awful lot like its predecessors. You might be able to look past that when you consider the 6.4" edge-to-edge display—the largest for a Galaxy Note.
The smartphone comes in ocean blue and lavender color schemes.
Fortnite
Perhaps not so much a "Galaxy Note9" highlight, but as part of the unpacking, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney was invited on stage to share the news that the mega-hit game Fortnite is now available on Android, with Samsung Galaxy owners being the first invited to join the game.
Galaxy Note9 buyers will be granted access to the game's new and exclusive Galaxy skin.
Pre-Order the Note9
You can begin reserving a Note9 through Samsung today.
T-Mobile and AT&T are set to start taking pre-orders at 9 PM PST tonight (August 9), while Verizon and Sprint will begin taking pre-orders at midnight PST.
Anyone who pre-orders the Samsung Galaxy Note9 through August 23 will receive a gift of either the Fortnite Galaxy skin and 15,000 V-bucks or a pair of AKG N60 noise canceling headphones.
