Verizon customers will be the first to try out super-fast 5G speeds beginning April 11, 2019. There is one catch though, you'll need to have a special phone and you'll need to be located Chicago or Minneapolis.
Verizon is offering various deals on phones, plans, and accessories which could save you almost $850 total, but only have one day to take advantage of these.
Here are the key dates you need to be aware of:
- March 14, 2019: Only day to take advantage of deals on the 5G phone
- April 11, 2019: Date of 5G availability in Chicago and Minneapolis
Verizon's First 5G Cell Phone
To be one of the first to experience the wonders of 5G speeds, you'll need to have these two things:
- The Motorola moto z3 phone
- The 5G moto mod
Technically the Motorola moto z3 isn't a 5G phone, but it will be 5G compatible once you've attached the 5G moto mod to it. Right now Verizon are offering these great deals on both:
- Get the Motorola moto z3 for free when you buy it on monthly installments (requires you keep your line active for 24 months)
- Pre-order the 5G moto mod and get it for $50 (normally $349.99) + a free travel charger
To qualify for the deals above, you'll need to activate a new line with Verizon on any unlimited plan—Go Unlimited, Above Unlimited or Beyond Unlimited. You also only have today (March 14) to take advantage of them.
Verizon's 5G Cell Phone Plans
Once you have the phone, you'll need a 5G plan—just because your phone is 5G capable, doesn't mean you'll automatically have 5G speeds. Verizon's 5G plans are pretty straightforward. Simply choose any of the carrier's unlimited plans, then pay $10/month extra to access the 5G network.
Verizon are also offering a special deal on their 5G plan add-on—get your first 3 months free! That's a savings of $30! You'll just pay the regular unlimited plan pricing for the plan you choose.
Where is Verizon 5G Available?
Unfortunately Verizon's 5G cell phone network isn't widely available just yet, but if you live in Chicago or Minneapolis, you're in luck. These two cities will be the first to have 5G enabled starting April 11, 2019.
If you don't live in either of these cities, don't worry, 5G is coming but you'll just have to be patient. Verizon has plans to launch 5G for cell phones in 30 other locations in the U.S. by the end of the year. You can still take advantage of the carrier's deals on the Motorola moto z3 and moto mod devices, you'll just have to wait until you can actually experience 5G speeds.
