Gen Mobile Plans
Gen Mobile offers six phone plans ranging from $10/month to $30/month. Its cheapest plans do not include international minutes, but four of its plans do.
What we like: International minutes
If international calling is your priority, Gen Mobile could be the right MVNO for you. Use international minutes to call over 100 countries on four of Gen mobile’s phone plans. You’ll also get $2 of credits to use on calls to areas outside of the included countries.
What we like: Low prices
With plans starting as low as $10/month, Gen Mobile has some of the cheapest costs. The MVNO's prices look especially affordable when you compare them to major carrier plans that can reach as high as $85/month. If you have a tight monthly budget, this carrier should definitely be on your radar.
What we like: T-Mobile’s 5G network
Gen Mobile includes access to T-Mobile’s 4G LTE and 5G networks. It’s the nation’s largest 5G network covering over 40% of the country. Just note that you’ll need a 5G-compatible phone to take advantage of the latest network technology.
What could be improved: Limited data
While Gen Mobile could be a great option for anybody who wants to pay low prices for phone service, its cheapest plans won’t be a good choice for heavy data users. In fact, the largest high-speed data allotment of a Gen Mobile plan under $20/month is 8GB, which is barely enough to cover the average person's data usage.
Gen Mobile Coverage
Customers of Gen Mobile will connect on the T-Mobile network, providing access to one of the largest 4G LTE networks in the country and the largest 5G network. T-Mobile's coverage is known for being exceptionally strong in most large cities and suburbs but has some room to grow in the rural areas of the country.

Gen Mobile vs. Competitors
Anyone looking for affordable phone plans with great international calling perks should consider Gen Mobile, but how does the small carrier compare to other small prepaid carriers (MVNOs)? We'll take a close look at how Gen Mobile stacks up against Mint Mobile, Tello, and Reach Mobile.
Gen Mobile vs. Mint Mobile
Mint Mobile (also on the T-Mobile network) has quickly become one of the most recognizable MVNOs due to an aggressive marketing campaign backed by its competitively priced plans. When it comes to mobile data, Mint has Gen Mobile beat. For as low as $15/month, you can get 5GB of data with Mint. Gen Mobile charges $18/month for a plan with 8GB. Plus, Mint offers plans with much higher data limits, including an unlimited plan, among others.
On the other hand, if you are looking for international calling perks, Gen Mobile is the way to go, with calls to over 100 locations included as a perk with most of its plans. International calling (besides Mexico and Canada) is missing from Mint plans.
Gen Mobile vs. Tello
Tello is another T-Mobile MVNO. Its phone plans offer some of the best value, with unlimited data available for as little as $29/month. Most Tello plans tend to be cheaper when compared to similar Gen Mobile plans. However, they only include international calling to over 60 countries compared to Gen Mobile's 100. Tello’s unlimited plan includes 25GB of high-speed data, which slows down to 2G speeds after you reached that limit. While that isn’t our favorite aspect of the Tello “unlimited” plan, it’s still much more data than you can get from Gen Mobile.
For high data limits, Tello is the better choice, but Gen Mobile is better for international calling.
Gen Mobile vs. Reach Mobile
Reach Mobile is an MVNO offering service on the AT&T and Verizon networks. Plans on Reach cost nearly the same as Gen Mobile for similar offerings. For example, Reach Mobile's 5GB is $25 and Gen Mobile's 8GB plan cost $18/month. Gen Mobile has the edge with its international calling perks, but if you want more flexibility, Reach is going to be your best (and only) option of the two.
Gen Mobile Cell Phones
Gen Mobile sells a small selection of phones. The majority of these phones are pre-owned iPhones or Samsung Galaxy devices, but there is a small selection of new Motorola devices as well.
Bringing your own device to Gen Mobile
Most new customers are usually better off bringing their own devices to Gen Mobile. The carrier doesn't have the best phone selection available, plus it'll save you from spending money on a new phone. Most GSM-compatible phones should be compatible with Gen Mobile service. If your phone works on the T-Mobile or AT&T network, it'll likely work with Gen Mobile.
Recap: Is Gen Mobile Right for You?
Gen Mobile is a solid option for those who want to break away from costly phone plans. However, several other MVNOs offer similarly priced plans or, in some cases, even cheaper ones.
So, how does Gen Mobile stand out from the bunch? It's all about those international calling perks. Gen Mobile has some of the best international calling perks available. If you want to switch to a smaller carrier and make a lot of international calls, Gen Mobile could be the carrier for you.
