Nestled in the heartland of the United States is Nebraska. With gently rolling hills and sweeping prairies, the state is filled with breathtaking views and natural scenery. Nebraska also has plenty for urbanites, with beautiful cities like Lincoln and Omaha offering a distinctive culture and plenty of things to do.
So, what does a state like Nebraska have to offer for phone service? We’ve compared coverage maps and discovered you can find service from at least one carrier in almost every populated area of the state. However, Nebraska is a massive state with large stretches of undeveloped territory. If you venture out into these areas, you'll probably struggle to find a signal with most carriers.
WhistleOut's coverage check feature shows what signal strength is like at your current location. Type in your address and we do the rest. In addition to showing you a map of your area with the coverage from the major carriers, we filter through the available cell phone plans and present only those from carriers who provide good reception at your location.
Whether you’re considering moving to Nebraska or a native Cornhusker, we'll tell you who has the best 4G LTE and 5G coverage.
About phone coverage in Nebraska
Since it's mostly plains and prairie, Nebraska's terrain doesn't pose major problems for cell carriers. That said, there are vast stretches of the state where you'll struggle for service. Carriers tend to place towers in places where there are significant amounts of people. As one of the least-densely populated states in the nation, there are regions where carriers haven't built towers because there are so few potential customers living in the area.
On the flip side, there are certain areas of the state where you'll have excellent service regardless of your network. Urban areas like Lincoln and Omaha and the border regions around Sioux City, Iowa, and Yankton, South Dakota, all have excellent service.
For the best coverage overall, look no further than Verizon. It stands head and shoulders above AT&T and T-Mobile for 4G LTE coverage in Nebraska. T-Mobile has the largest 5G network, but it's still safer to rely on Verizon's 4G LTE since the 5G network isn't yet widespread.
Why it's important to pick the right coverage
There are a lot of dead zones in Nebraska. You want a network and plan that will cover you both in the cities and wherever you travel.

Best Verizon phone plan
Verizon is the best choice for mobile service in Nebraska whether you live in rural or urban areas. The best Verizon plan overall is its Unlimited Plus plan. Plus, you can sign up for various optional perks like the Disney Bundle for just $10/month each.
Best phone plans on Verizon's network
While Verizon offers solid 4G LTE coverage and blisteringly fast 5G, its plans are some of the most expensive on the market once you start adding perks. Luckily, Verizon’s network is served by some of the best MVNOs. Buying a plan with them will help you save big.
Our favorite Verizon MVNO is Visible. It offers three unlimited data plans, including a $25/month option with unlimited talk, text, and data. Plus, Visible offers an unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds capped at 5Mbps.
Twigby Mobile is a solid option for customers who want to save money. Its budget-friendly plans vary from talk-and-text-only to unlimited data. Notably, Twigby Mobile delivers some of the most affordable plans available for average data users. Its unlimited plan is just $35/month and includes 20GB of premium data and offers mobile hotspot capability. New customers can get this plan on promotion for $10/month for the first three months.
Popular plans on Verizon's network
Here are some of the most popular plans on Verizon’s network in Nebraska right now:
AT&T network coverage in Nebraska
AT&T offers the second-largest 4G LTE network in Nebraska covering 69.87% of the state. While it doesn't have the same range as Verizon, that's still solid for a state with a ton of rural areas. You'll generally have service in cities and along major roads, but there is a sizeable service gap in the rural center of the state.
The AT&T 5G network is non-existent in Nebraska. Covering just 1.05% of the state, it doesn't even include service in cities like North Platte, Omaha, or Lincoln. The only AT&T 5G service in Nebraska is near urban areas along the borders of Iowa and South Dakota.
Best AT&T phone plan
AT&T’s 4G LTE footprint makes it a decent choice for wireless service in Nebraska. Our favorite AT&T cell phone plan is its Premium 2.0 option, which includes unlimited talk, text, and data with truly unlimited premium high-speed data. Plus, there's also a 100GB mobile hotspot.
If you’re not a fan of postpaid plans, you can also check out the best AT&T prepaid plans. You can also grab some family and friends, and hop on an AT&T family plan for a competitive multi-line discount. Consider an AT&T bundle deal that saves you money if you need home internet.
Best phone plans on AT&T's network
If you want to use AT&T’s network but don't want to pay top dollar, there are plenty of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) that help you save. These small carriers piggyback off of the big networks, so you'll enjoy the same reliable service at much lower costs.
One of the most popular AT&T MVNOs is Cricket Wireless. It offers several plans at various prices, including an unlimited plan with perks like HBO Max with ads and cloud storage for $55/month. Not many MVNOs offer streaming perks, so Cricket is a great option if you like bundling services. That said, Cricket is owned directly by AT&T, so it doesn’t offer some of the deep discounts that other MVNOs can. However, its partnership does allow for more perks and access to Cricket stores all over the country.
For seniors living in Nebraska, Consumer Cellular is a good choice because it is one of the few carriers that offers an AARP discount. You’ll also get J.D. Power award-winning customer service and several plans to pick from. One of the best plans for average data users is the Unlimited Talk, Text, and 5GB data plan for $25/month.
Red Pocket is a solid MVNO that operates on all three major networks, including AT&T. Your address will determine which network you are placed on. It has a variety of plans available, but one of its most popular is the $20 Monthly Plan that includes 20GB of high-speed data. It also offers hotspot capability and unlimited minutes to the US and over 80 other countries.

Cricket, Red Pocket, and Consumer Cellular are far from the only MVNOs on AT&T’s network. Check out some of the other popular plans below:
T-Mobile network coverage in Nebraska
If you spend most of your time in Nebraska, we don't recommend a plan with T-Mobile. While it offers the nation's largest 5G network and incredibly fast speeds, the situation in Nebraska isn't great. T-Mobile ranks in third place for its 4G LTE network covering 16.5% of the state. Its 5G coverage is the best in the state, but still only covers 12.41% of Nebraska. It offers coverage in most urban areas, but the rest of the state is extremely spotty with many dead zones.
T-Mobile is a solid choice is you spend most of your time in urban areas and travel to other states frequently. Otherwise, Verizon and AT&T are safer coverage options.
Best T-Mobile phone plans
The top T-Mobile plan is the Experience More option. It offers unlimited talk, text, and data with unlimited premium data. Plus, T-Mobile includes bonus perks like a 60GB mobile hotspot, a Netflix and Apple TV+ subscription, 4K streaming, and access to T-Mobile’s “New in Two” early phone upgrade program.
You can also check out the best T-Mobile prepaid plans or the best T-Mobile family plans to snag a family-plan discount. We also recommend bundling T-Mobile phone and internet service for great cost-cutting if you can get T-Mobile 5G Home internet.
Best phone plans on T-Mobile's network
T-Mobile MVNOs can get you access to the best 5G coverage without paying top-dollar prices.
Our favorite T-Mobile MVNO is Mint Mobile. It offers an unlimited plan for as low as $15/month (but you'll need to pre-pay for service upfront). It includes unlimited talk and text plus 50GB of premium data. There’s also a 20GB mobile hotspot. If you use up your high-speed allotment, you’ll still have unlimited data, but your speeds may slow during network congestion.
US Mobile is another great MVNO with service on all three major networks. There are several plans to choose from, including shared data plans and three excellent unlimited plans. Its highest unlimited option provides unlimited premium data allotment with a 50GB mobile hotspot for $44/month. Plus, buying a family plan with three or more Unlimited Premium lines gets you a subscription perk.
Tello is a nice option for customers who don't need massive unlimited plans. Its 1GB data plan is one of the cheapest on the market at just $9/month. We also like its customizable plans for as low as $5/month for a no-data plan. That said, its crowning jewel is an unlimited plan for just $25/month that includes unlimited talk and text with 50GB of premium data and a 10GB hotspot. If you use up that allotment your speeds are limited to 2G.
