Communicating with friends and family across the globe doesn’t have to break the bank.
Cricket Wireless customers have access to several international calling, texting, and roaming options, depending on the phone plan they’re on.
Cricket's Smart Unlimited and Supreme Unlimited plans include calling to and from Mexico and Canada for free; to call overseas, you can add individual calling and texting plans to over 200 countries for just $10-$15 per location.
Let’s walk through Cricket’s international calling options and how to add one to your phone plan.
Cricket international calling options
Cricket’s Smart Unlimited, and Supreme Unlimited plans include free international calling and texting to and from Mexico and Canada as part of the built-in plan benefits, as well as free texting from the U.S. to over 200 international locations.
To call countries overseas, the carrier offers international calling as an add-on feature based on the individual country you wish to contact. For $10-15 per month, you can choose from over 200 countries to sign up for a calling benefit, which also includes unlimited texts to that country. You’ll need to add a separate international calling plan for each individual country you wish to connect with.

How the Cricket international calling add-on works
When you add an international calling add-on to a Cricket phone plan, you’ll be able to call any landline number (and most cell phone numbers) in that country directly from your phone, even if you don’t have Wi-Fi. Text messages should also work normally, with or without an internet connection.
Important considerations include the following:
- Only customers on the Select Unlimited, Smart Unlimited, and Supreme Unlimited plans are eligible for the international add-on.
- The monthly cost is dependent on the country you choose. Calling Belgium costs $15/month, while calls to Albania cost $10/month.
- To call multiple countries, you will have to pay for each add-on individually.
- Each country has its own limit on the number of calling minutes. Guatemala, for example, includes 100 minutes of calling time at $10 per month.
- You choose between automatic monthly renewals or a single-month option and simply renew when you wish.
So how does this structure work practically? Let’s say, for example, you have the Select Unlimited plan at $40 per month (which is the cheapest plan eligible for international calling add-ons). And let’s say you want to keep up with your family scattered across Europe—France, Spain, and Portugal.
An international calling add-on for each of these countries costs $15 per month, for a total of $45 added to your standard phone bill. With the Select Unlimited plan, your monthly phone bill would be $85.
Cricket international roaming
Cricket customers experience great coverage throughout the United States, thanks to the company’s AT&T-powered network. However, if you leave the country, you’ll want to ensure that your plan provides coverage.
Customers on the Smart Unlimited and Supreme Unlimited plans get roaming data in both Mexico and Canada. That means you can text, talk, and use mobile data without worrying about extra charges.
If you’re not on one of these plans, your phone likely won’t work once you cross the border into Canada or Mexico. Cricket doesn’t offer international roaming overseas—to get mobile internet access, you’ll want to opt for an eSIM for international travel.
How to add international calling to a Cricket plan
Adding international benefits to your Cricket plan is easy. You can do it on your computer or browser, or through the myCricket App.
To add countries to your phone plan through a browser:
- Sign in to your account and go to the International Calling page
- Choose the appropriate phone line
- Type in the name of the country you’d like to add
- Follow the steps to complete the purchase
To buy an international add-on using the myCricket app:
- Sign in and choose the appropriate phone line
- Go to “Manage Features” and enter your PIN
- Go to “Add-on Features”
- Select the international calling features and countries that you’d like to add
- Schedule the feature to begin today or at the beginning of your next billing cycle
If you’re having trouble adding international calling features online, you can always contact Cricket Wireless support.
Editor's tip: Don't forget to specify your renewal
If you want ongoing Cricket international calling and texting features, be sure to opt for automatic monthly renewals.
On the other hand, if a friend or loved one will only be away temporarily, make sure your calling plan is set to a month-to-month structure so you won't be charged for it again.
The best Cricket phone plans for international calling
The best Cricket plan to add a calling benefit to depends on how many other countries you’re planning to add calling plans for—as shown above, it can get pretty expensive pretty fast.
If you just need Canada and Mexico access, or if you’re planning to add only one or two additional country calling plans, the best plan option is Cricket’s $45 Smart Unlimited plan, which strikes a balance between features and cost.
This plan includes international calling, texting, and data in Canada and Mexico, as well as free texting to over 200 international destinations. Adding one or two international calling plans would cost an additional $20-30/month, keeping it within the price of other unlimited plans that include international calling features.
If you have lots of international friends and family, the Sensible 10GB plan may be a better choice. It has the same Canada/Mexico benefits, but costs $15/month less than the Smart Unlimited plan. You only get 10GB of high-speed data on this plan, but you’re not completely cut off if you reach that limit—instead, Cricket will slow your speeds to 128kbps (around 2G) until your next billing cycle. If you don’t typically use a lot of mobile data, such as those who primarily connect to Wi-Fi, this plan could help you save on your base price before adding multiple calling plans.
Based on our hands-on testing, though, there are better international benefits from other carriers. If you’re in the market to switch, we recommend considering one of our picks for the best international phone plans to help you save while staying connected.
