My experience with Mint Mobile left me unsatisfied with both the long-term pricing and coverage gaps in my area, so I decided to switch to Visible. Plus, Visible’s perks are much better than Mint’s. I can confidently say that after over a year of service with Visible, I couldn't be happier.

Where Mint only offers a single unlimited data option, Visible offers three plans at different price points. In fact, two of Visible’s unlimited data plans are straight-out cheaper than Mint’s $40/month plan. You can even get Visible’s top-tier premium plan for the same price as Mint’s in a Visible family plan.
Visible’s $25/month unlimited everything plan
Visible's cheapest plan is only $25/month, but cheap doesn’t mean bad quality. I’ve had Visible’s most basic plan for over a year and plan on keeping it for many years to come.
For a flat $25 each month, you get unlimited talk, text, and data on Verizon's nationwide 4G LTE and 5G networks. It also includes an unlimited mobile hotspot (albeit capped at 5Mbps).
While that may not sound fast, it’s more than enough for my needs as a remote worker who mainly uses Wi-Fi. When I’m working away from home, I can easily check my email and watch YouTube on my laptop all through my hotspot. You also get unlimited texting and basic calling to Mexico and Canada.
Visible+’s amazing perks only cost $35/month
This is easily Visible’s best plan since it includes unlimited premium data and access to Verizon’s fastest network. Better yet, it’s still cheaper than Mint’s unlimited plan.
For $35/month, this plan includes everything in the base plan, plus unlimited premium data that isn't slowed during congestion, access to Verizon's fastest 5G Ultra Wideband network, and one Global Pass per month for international data. You can also use your regular data in Mexico and Canada to stay connected even while traveling.
Visible+ Pro offers even more for $45/month
Visible’s top-tier Visible+ Pro plan builds on Visible+ by adding a second Global Pass, international calling to over 85 countries, and free smartwatch service. It still includes unlimited premium data at the fastest 5G speeds Verizon’s network has to offer.
Although it’s technically more expensive than Mint’s unlimited plan, if you create a Visible Inner Circle family plan, you can save $5/month on every linked account—dropping the price to just $40/month. That means you could pay the same for the Mint plan, or Visible’s perk-packed service.
Save $20 with Visible referrals
Visible makes it easy to save with its Bring A Friend program. When you refer a friend to Visible through the app, you both get a $20 service credit. It's a simple way to lower your bill while introducing someone to affordable, reliable service on Verizon's network.
Mint requires upfront multi-month payment
With Visible, you get unlimited data for a flat rate every month. It's a monthly service, meaning you can leave anytime your billing cycle ends. There are no contracts so you aren’t stuck with your plan for years.
However, Mint Mobile makes you pay for your service in bulk. You have to sign up for a 3-, 6-, or 12-month plan and pay for it all at once. For example, the unlimited plan costs $40/month when you choose 3 months of service, but you have to pay $120 upfront.
The more months you commit to, the lower your monthly rate. But don’t forget, you have to pay for your service right away. That means a full year of service requires an even larger upfront sum—$360 for a 12-month plan.
Save more with a Visible annual plan
All of Visible’s plans are available on a month-to-month basis, giving you incredible flexibility without any long-term commitment. However, if you find you love the service, you can lock in significant savings by opting for an annual plan.
Paying for a full year of the base plan costs $275 per year ($22.91/month), saving you an extra $2/month. The Visible+ plan costs $375 per year ($31.25/month), for a total of $3.75 in monthly savings. And the top-tier Visible+ Pro plan costs $450 per year ($37.50/month), for $7.50/month in savings.
This means you get the same freedom to leave anytime with monthly billing, or the option to secure a lower rate by paying annually.
Visible has better 4G coverage

While Mint Mobile (which runs on T-Mobile's network) boasts the nation's largest 5G footprint, I found that this didn't translate to reliable service in my daily life. On Mint's service, I experienced consistent dead zones where my calls would drop, especially along coastal routes and when I ventured inland.
The switch to Visible (and by extension the Verizon network) completely fixed this. Although Verizon's 5G network may be less extensive than T-Mobile's, its 4G LTE coverage is considered the most reliable and widespread in the country.
The longer wavelengths of 4G LTE are better at reaching more remote and rural areas where shorter 5G wavelengths fail. I now have solid service on my Visible plan everywhere from La Jolla beach to Yosemite National Park.
Here's the coverage comparison between Visible and Mint in my home state:

T-Mobile 4G coverage: 51.87% T-Mobile 5G coverage: 77.01% |

Mint is a great choice for city dwellers who primarily stay in urban hubs and prioritize the latest 5G speeds. However, for anyone who travels frequently or needs dependable service across a wider area, Visible provides the dependability that truly matters.

Mint Mobile may offer access to the largest 5G footprint in the country, but Visible's 5G Ultra-Wideband network boasts the fastest 5G speeds.
On Verizon's Ultra-Wideband, Visible can achieve blazing speeds between 195–634Mbps, easily surpassing Mint's top end. However, this ultra-fast service is very limited in its availability, often restricted to specific urban pockets.
For most people, Mint will deliver a faster, more consistent 5G experience, but if you live or work right in the heart of a Verizon Ultra-Wideband zone, Visible can deliver an unmatched speed boost.

In a nutshell, Mint uses T-Mobile's far-reaching 5G signals that deliver solid coverage but lower 5G speeds. Visible's Ultra-Wideband uses Verizon's super-fast signals that are incredibly quick but have limited range, making them available only in small, dense areas. That's why Visible’s 4G network is necessary to ensure you have a usable connection almost everywhere. At least you’re connected, even if it's not always the absolute fastest.
Mint only offers 50GB of full-speed data
Mint may offer more 5G, but its unlimited plan only includes 35GB of full-speed data. Once you reach 50GB of data used in a month, your data is deprioritized, meaning your speeds will halt when the network is busy. If you want to avoid a risk of inconvenient slow speeds, Visible’s $35/month and $45/month plans give you premium data all month long.
My experience with Visible's base plan has been the opposite. Even though my data is deprioritized, I haven’t noticed any speed issues in over a year. Visible provides solid, consistent speeds around 150Mbps that comfortably handle HD video streaming, social media browsing, and video calls.Visible’s plan perks beat Mint’s

Mint only offers a few main perks with its unlimited plan: premium data, hotspot capability, and calling to Mexico and Canada. But keep in mind that while Mint's unlimited plan does include 20GB of hotspot data, it eats into your 50GB premium limit. So make sure to use it wisely.
Visible offers better (and more practical) perks with all of its unlimited plans. For just $25/month, you get an unlimited hotspot that doesn't touch your data allowance on Visible’s base plan. Plus, you have free calling to Mexico and Canada just like Mint.
The real value starts with the $35/month Visible+ plan. You still pay less than Mint's $40/month unlimited plan, and you get unlimited premium data that never slows down, Verizon's fastest 5G speeds, data roaming in Mexico and Canada, and a free Global Pass each month.
If you want smartwatch service and even more international data, the Visible+ Pro plan is your best bet.
Visible's unlimited hotspot is worth it
The difference in hotspot functionality between Mint and Visible is one of the biggest selling points. Mint Mobile's Unlimited plan includes a 20GB high-speed hotspot allowance, which is deducted from your main 50GB high-speed data pool. Once that 20GB is used, your hotspot speeds are reduced to nearly unusable levels.
Visible, however, offers an unlimited mobile hotspot on all of its plans. While the speeds are capped—5Mbps on the base plan, 10Mbps on Visible+, and 15Mbps on Visible+ Pro—the data amount is truly unlimited. This means you never have to worry about hitting a hard cap that cuts you off.
Save when you bundle cell and internet service
Both Mint and Visible offer discounts when you bundle your cell phone plan with home internet.
You can save $10/month on Mint’s MINTernet 5G Home Internet by bundling with your phone plan. This discount drops the price to $40/month. 5G service is portable and easy to set up wherever you have a T-Mobile signal.
Save $15/month on Verizon’s Fios (fiber optic) internet by bundling your Visible phone plan, bringing the price down to $45/month. Fios delivers consistently faster speeds and greater reliability than 5G home internet.
The choice is yours. Mint's bundle offers flexibility, while Visible's provides a superior discount on a premium, fiber-optic connection.
Visible has a flexible family plan
Mint Mobile and Visible do family plans differently. Mint offers a traditional family plan where one person manages and pays the entire bill for multiple lines. It works really well for households that prefer a single payment or a primary account holder.
Visible offers a modern alternative with its Inner Circle. This isn't a single bill plan. Instead, it lets friends or family link their individual accounts so that everyone gets a $5 monthly discount on their own line.
There is one condition: Only Visible+ and Visible+ Pro plans are eligible for the discount. That means you can snag Visible+ for $30/month and Visible+ Pro for $40/month. The key advantage is that each person maintains their own account, pays their own bill, and chooses their own plan. You get the financial benefit of a family plan without anyone having to manage the payments for the whole group.
Switch to Visible in 5 minutes (or less)
Switching carriers often comes with anxiety about a complicated process or lost numbers, but my move from Mint to Visible was remarkably simple. Before starting, I made sure my phone was unlocked and gathered my Mint account number and PIN—information easily found in the Mint Mobile app.
Activating my Visible plan took less than 5 minutes. I chose the eSIM option and activated my service within the Visible app. I entered my details for the number port, scanned a QR code to install the eSIM, and my number was transferred and service fully activated almost instantly. Plus, if I change phones in the future, I can reinstall my Visible eSIM to the new device with just a few clicks.

Leaving Mint was equally straightforward. Since it's a prepaid service, I simply let my three-month term expire. There were no early termination fees or lengthy cancellation calls. The entire transition from one carrier to the other was seamless and completely hassle-free.
Who should switch, and why I'm staying
My decision to switch from Mint to Visible came down to two critical factors: better coverage on the Verizon network and cheaper pricing. The combination of dependable service in my area and practical perks (like an unlimited hotspot) made the choice a no-brainer.
Mint Mobile is still an excellent choice for users who live in major cities with strong T-Mobile service. However, for anyone who frequently travels, or prioritizes unlimited features, Visible—and particularly the Visible+ plan—is the best option. It’s cheaper than Mint and offers so much more.
I've been so satisfied with the service that I am sticking with Visible. In fact, I’m even considering upgrading to an annual plan on Visible+. Needless to say, I switched from Mint to Visible and won’t be going back.
Why I switched to Visible: FAQs
Is Visible truly unlimited compared to Mint Mobile?
Yes, Visible offers truly unlimited data compared to Mint Mobile's "unlimited" plan, which caps high-speed data at 35GB before slowing speeds. Visible's base plan is subject to deprioritization, but its higher-priced plans include unlimited premium, prioritized data with no cap.
What is the biggest difference in coverage between Mint Mobile and Visible Wireless?
The biggest difference is that Visible's network coverage is better in rural areas, while Mint Mobile's network coverage is better in urban areas. This is because Visible uses the Verizon network, which is known for its rural reach, and Mint uses the T-Mobile network, which has a larger 5G infrastructure.
How long does it take to port a number from Mint to Visible?
Porting a number from Mint to Visible can take anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours. It took me around 5 minutes to port my number from Mint to Visible.
Do I have to pay a whole year upfront with Visible, like I do with Mint?
No, you do not have to pay a whole year upfront with Visible. You can choose between a flexible month-to-month plan or a discounted annual plan.
