As Verizon's wholly owned and operated MVNO, Visible offers the nation's best 4G LTE coverage and some of its fastest 5G speeds. Because of its parent carrier's network prowess, it handily beats out other prepaid carriers that operate on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, though competitors like Mint Mobile have a leg up in 5G coverage and speeds.
Like with Verizon, Visible's 4G network coverage and speeds is tip-top everywhere from urban cities to more rural regions of the United States—but does that mean it's the right network for you? Let's look at how Visible's coverage stacks up against other networks in your area.
Visible coverage map
Running on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, Visible's coverage spans over 70% of the country. AT&T follows at 68%, with T-Mobile bringing up the rear at 62% nationwide 4G LTE coverage. All three carriers claim to cover 99% of Americans due to concentrated network access in urban and suburban areas. However, the Visible/Verizon network is the only one of the three decent rural coverage as well, with the exception of some spottier areas in the western United States.

Where Visible's phone service has some catching up to do is in its 5G network. Verizon's 5G nationwide and ultra-wideband networks cover just 12.77% of the country, falling significantly behind the U.S. leader T-Mobile (53.79%) and second-place AT&T (29.52%). Visible/Verizon's 5G network has greatly expanded within the last year, and it boasts the fastest 5G speeds on its mmWave ultra-wideband 5G network—but those gigabit hotspots are few and far between due to the nature of mmWave 5G technology.

What is an MVNO?
An MVNO is a cell phone carrier that uses a different network to provide cell service. In this case, Visible uses Verizon’s network to provide service. Typically, you can expect cheaper rates from MVNOs for cell phone plans with the caveat that your data speeds can suddenly slow down occasionally.
Visible network coverage analysis
Since Visible uses Verizon towers, the best coverage analysis compares Visible's coverage map to those of AT&T and T-Mobile, the parent carriers of Visible's MVNO competitors. From 4G LTE to 5G support and carrier comparisons, let's see how Visible's coverage stacks up.
Visible coverage compared
| Carrier | 4G nationwide coverage | 5G nationwide coverage | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visible (via Verizon) | 70% | 12% | View plans |
| AT&T | 68% | 29% | View plans |
| T-Mobile | 62% | 53% | View plans |
Visible's 4G LTE network
As in past years, Verizon's 4G LTE network ranks first amongst all wireless networks for best coverage—which means Visible's network is best in class. Since Visible doesn't own its own network, our best comparison is by taking a look at how the rankings break down among the Big Three national networks that host various MVNOs:
- Verizon: 70% 4G LTE signal coverage
- AT&T: 68% 4G LTE signal coverage
- T-Mobile: 62% 4G LTE signal coverage
The Verizon/Visible network dunks on the competition and provides the most reliable 4G LTE coverage in the country. In most places you’ll go in the United States, you can rely on getting a cell signal with your Visible wireless cell phone plan.
Visible's 5G network
Visible provides super-fast data speeds on Verizon’s 5G network as well. Admittedly, Visible’s 5G access isn’t quite as all-encompassing as its 4G LTE coverage, but it’s safe to assume it will dramatically improve over time as Verizon's 5G towers continue to pop up across the nation. As of right now, the Visible/Verizon network only covers a little under 7,000 ZIP codes, which is good for about 12% 5G coverage for the country.

Visible cell phone plans
Visible offers a simple selection of three unlimited plans. The basic unlimited plan is the Visible $25 Plan. It costs $25/month, or $275 on the annual plan, and offers unlimited data and 5G access on Verizon's network. While your data is truly unlimited all month long, it may be slowed at times due to network congestion. It also offers an unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds capped at 5Mbps, which is still fast enough for most basic web browsing.
Visible has two premium unlimited plans: the Visible+ plan and the Visible+ Pro plan. For $35/month, or $375 on the annual plan, Visible+ offers unlimited premium high-speed data. Plus, you can use this data on Verizon's ultra-wideband network, so it offers some of the fastest speeds of any wireless plan. The plan also comes with a 10Mbps unlimited mobile hotspot and international texts and calling.
For a few more perks, you'll have to pay another $10/month more for the Visible+ Pro plan for a total of $45/month, or $450 for the year. You get smartwatch service, as well as international benefits like extensive international calling and texting options, with the ability to call 85 countries and text to 200 countries, ensuring customers can stay connected globally. Visible+ Pro clients also get faster hotspot speeds at 15Mbps.
Visible vs. the competition
Visible users should expect better coverage than users who subscribe to MVNOs on other networks. For example, Cricket uses AT&T's network, which has a slightly smaller network footprint in the country compared to Verizon's. It's a more significant difference between MVNOs on T-Mobile's network, which has an even smaller network compared to Verizon.
As a rule of thumb, make sure to always check the network provider for any smaller prepaid carriers. Since Verizon currently offers the best network coverage, it's a big bonus if you can find an MVNO like Visible that uses Verizon.
Visible vs. Cricket Wireless coverage (AT&T network)
| Visible | Cricket | |
|---|---|---|
| 4G LTE coverage | 70% | 68% |
| 5G coverage | 21% | 41% |
| Urban coverage | Excellent | Excellent |
| Rural coverage | Good | Good |
| 5G bands | Mid-band High-band |
Mid-band High-band |
In truth, customers on either Visible's or Cricket's network should be pretty happy with their 4G LTE network service. AT&T's network, which Cricket runs on, is barely behind Verizon's, which supports Visible. That 2% difference is noticeable mostly in rural areas of the country.
Conversely, you'll see that Cricket customers with access to AT&T's 5G network will have a much better chance of connecting to it than those on Visible's—though both fall significantly behind MVNOs with T-Mobile's 5G coverage.
Visible vs. Mint Mobile coverage (T-Mobile network)
| Visible | Mint Mobile | |
|---|---|---|
| 4G LTE coverage | 70% | 62% |
| 5G coverage | 12% | 53% |
| Urban coverage | Excellent | Excellent |
| Rural coverage | Good | Poor |
| 5G bands | Mid-band High-band |
Low-band Mid-band |
Visible and Mint Mobile both perform very well in urban and suburban regions with their 4G LTE networks, which is still the most dominant connection in the country. However, T-Mobile's network, which supports Mint Mobile, is known for its spotty coverage in rural areas. If you're in a more remote area of the United States, Visible is the way to go.
That said, T-Mobile undoubtedly takes the crown for 5G coverage in the U.S., and Mint Mobile customers benefit from that 5G access. If you're living in even a modestly sized city and you have Mint Mobile 5G in your area, you're likely to get much better coverage and faster speeds than with Visible.
MVNO throttling and deprioritization
Like other MVNOs, Visible offers discount pricing to get access to Verizon’s network, but there is a catch: data throttling and deprioritization. That basically means that your data speeds can grind to a halt during peak-usage periods because Verizon’s network is giving priority to its own users.
Let’s say you (a Visible user) and a friend (a Verizon user) are attending a concert in a big venue. You record yourself dancing on Instagram and singing along to the lyrics, but your cell phone refuses to upload the video to your Instagram story. Naturally, you start to panic because what’s the point of even going to a concert if your friends don’t know that you went? Meanwhile, your friend with a Verizon unlimited plan has updated their story several times and is receiving all the heart-emoji reactions. Unacceptable!
When you opt for budget carriers and MVNOs like Visible, you run the risk of data speeds throttling when the network is congested with tons of users at once. Sure, you get a cheaper monthly rate for your cell phone plan, but it’s no fun when you can’t get a text out from a crowded grocery store.
How good is Visible's coverage?
Visible has the best 4G LTE coverage in the country, thanks to its backing from Verizon's best-in-class network in both cities and rural areas. And though 5G coverage may be sporadic, the 5G signals you do get access to are fast and strong. If 5G is a major priority for you, though, we recommend an MVNO on T-Mobile's network, as long as you live in a well-covered area.
Pros & cons
- Excellent 4G LTE coverage thanks to Verizon network
- Great urban and rural service
- Cheap unlimited plans
- Unlimited mobile hotspots
- Limited 5G support
- Base plan can deprioritize speeds at any time
