Whether you're moving to Missouri, are a current resident, or you're simply visiting the Show-Me State, you’ll be happy to know that Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile all offer excellent wireless coverage across the state.

You can use WhistleOut's coverage check feature to instantly see what coverage is like at your home in Missouri or any location in the country. Simply type in your address and we'll show you the best networks and plans for that area. This feature helps you to make better decisions when it comes to picking your next phone plan.

Keep reading to learn more about Missouri's phone coverage and discover which plans are the best, no matter if you're watching the Chiefs in Kansas City or posting pictures of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

The bottom line: Verizon has the best coverage in Missouri

The best wireless coverage in Missouri is from Verizon because of its expansive 4G LTE network. Covering 98.15% of the territory in the state, it offers the largest coverage area of any carrier with very few dead zones. The best plan on Verizon’s network is the Visible+ Pro plan because it offers unlimited premium data and an unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds capped at 15Mbps.

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon all have strong cellular networks, but none covers 100% of Missouri. Luckily, you'll find a cell signal from all three carriers in the cities and most rural areas in the state. Dead zones stretch primarily over extremely rural areas such as the Mark Twain National Forest.

If you live in cities like Kansas City, St. Louis, or Springfield, you can expect fast and reliable 4G LTE and 5G coverage from virtually every carrier. In fact, Kansas City is one of the best cities for 5G coverage in the nation. On the other hand, if you live in rural areas, you may only find a 5G phone signal with T-Mobile or AT&T.

Why it's important to pick the right coverage

Picking the right wireless coverage in Missouri is important to guarantee connectivity no matter where you travel. Whether you're visiting a city like St. Louis or exploring the Ozark Mountains, you want to ensure that you stay connected with your family and friends. Strong wireless coverage is crucial to access things like navigation apps and for having a lifeline during emergencies. Additionally, opting for a carrier with strong coverage in the areas where you work and live helps you avoid frustrating dead zones and dropped calls, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted mobile experience when you don't have access to reliable Wi-Fi

We rank 4G LTE as the most important coverage overall because of its wide availability. While Missouri has made great strides in expanding 5G service in its rural areas, there are still many places where 4G LTE is the only signal available. As technology advances, 5G networks continue growing as an integral part of the mobile experience because they offer faster speeds and improved bandwidth.

Verizon network coverage in Missouri

With its robust 4G LTE network covering 98.15% of the state, Verizon is the overall leading network in Missouri. With very few places in the state not covered, Verizon's map a major perk for customers. That said, Verizon offers a much smaller 41.25% 5G coverage area, which is much smaller than AT&T and T-Mobile. Verizon's 5G network is limited to larger cities like Kansas City, St. Louis, and Springfield.

To determine how strong Verizon's 4G LTE and 5G coverage is in your area, use the interactive Verizon coverage map below and zoom into your neighborhood. You can then toggle between 4G and 5G coverage to see if Verizon will work well in your area.

Best Verizon phone plan

If you want the best Verizon phone plan, the Unlimited Plus plan is the choice for you. It offers unlimited premium data, a 30GB mobile hotspot allotment, and access to discounted rates on perks like the Disney+ Bundle, Apple Music, and more.

While testing Verizon's service, we clocked their 5G UW speeds at over 800Mbps (the fastest mobile data speeds we've ever seen). This means you can stream videos in 4K and play mobile games with no lagging or skipped frames. That said, just remember that these Verizon 5G speeds are limited to urban areas. In the rest of the state, you'll see slower (but still respectable) speeds around 100Mbps.

Best phone plans on Verizon's network

You don't have to sign up with Verizon directly to get its coverage in Missouri. You can also switch to a Verizon MVNO instead to get the same great service. MVNOs offer rented access to the major carrier networks, meaning they can offer service at much cheaper prices.

Our favorite Verizon MVNO is Visible, which Verizon owns. The Visible base plan is great. For just $25/month, you can get a basic wireless plan with unlimited 5G data and an unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds capped at 5Mbps. Those are great features for that price. During our testing of Visible's service, we saw fast and consistent speeds, whether in a suburban setting or more remote areas.

T-Mobile is the best option for 5G coverage in Missouri with 93.38% of the state covered. The carrier's 5G network is also the largest across the entire country. You'll generally have solid T-Mobile service across the state except for in rural areas such as the Mark Twain National Forest and within the Ozark Mountains. Check the interactive T-Mobile coverage map below to determine if T-Mobile's network is strong where you live.

We've tested T-Mobile across the nation and found it's best for those who live in populated city centers and suburban areas. Rural customers will generally have a better experience with AT&T or Verizon.

AT&T network coverage in Missouri

AT&T offers the second largest 4G LTE and 5G networks in Missouri at 96.95% and 89.29% respectively. That makes it a well-rounded network that's suitable for both urban folks and city dwellers. There are very few AT&T dead zones in Missouri, with small patches scattered  in rural areas throughout the state. The carrier generally offers a solid balance of coverage and fast data speeds.

When testing AT&T's 5G coverage, we saw download speeds up to 236Mbps. Our tester also had a strong and reliable signal, no matter where in the nation they traveled.

You can toggle between AT&T's 5G and 4G coverage in the interactive map below to determine if their network is strong where you live.

Best AT&T phone plan

AT&T's top plan is the Premium 2.0 plan for $90/month for one line. It includes unlimited premium data and a 100GB mobile hotspot, giving you the power to stay connected on the go. While it is the carrier's most expensive plan and doesn't include streaming perks, you can substantially cut the price by getting it as part of an AT&T Unlimited Your Way family plan.

5G and 4G LTE network speeds in Missouri

Your network speed is one of the most important factors in determining your overall wireless experience. In general, the faster your speed, the better your experience. Fast 4G LTE and 5G data speeds guarantee your device and apps will work when you need them.

  • Verizon provides the largest 4G LTE network and fastest 5G speeds of up to 800Mbps on the 5G UW (Ultra Wideband) network, though its 5G network is the smallest covering just 41.25% of Missouri.
  • T-Mobile offers the largest 5G network at 98.38% of the state, but has slower speeds overall (around 174Mbps) due to relying primarily on mid-band towers for its network.
  • AT&T offers a solid middle ground with a large 5G network (covering 89.29% of the state) and speeds up to 236Mbps.

Still unsure which network you should choose? Try an eSIM free trial

Live in an area with access to all three networks? You should consider testing your local coverage through an eSIM free trial. Both US Mobile and Visible offer free temporary trials of their wireless coverage. While you can't treat these offers as a replacement phone plan, they should give you enough time to decide which network you can most rely on in your region of Missouri.
