Network coverage in Florida
Florida is famous for its Miami nightlife, Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, and St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States. Not to mention it’s the only state in the Lower 48 with coral reefs and you’ll find three different national parks within its borders.
How does all this translate to phone service? The great news is, despite the abundance of islands, wetlands, skyscrapers, and orange groves, Florida offers exceptional phone service. In addition to all the fun facts above, Florida is also the flattest state in the country, so phone signals travel a lot farther than they might otherwise. This allows all three major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile) to offer strong service throughout the state.
AT&T offers the strongest overall coverage in Florida and includes a strong signal whether you are in rural or urban areas. T-Mobile owns the largest 5G network and offers solid signal in urban areas, but struggles in extremely rural areas. Verizon is a balanced carrier that has excellent rural 4G LTE coverage and urban 5G coverage.
Why it's important to pick the right coverage
Like many other states, Florida had a good mix of urban and rural areas. You want a network and plan that will cover you wherever you travel.

AT&T network coverage in Florida
AT&T offers the largest 4G LTE network in Florida covering a stunning 98.95% of the state. That’s such total coverage you may be wondering where that missing 1% is. Most of it is in the undeveloped areas of the Everglades. So, while AT&T may not have the best reception for the alligators, it’s sure to cover everyone else.
The AT&T 5G network is also stellar in Florida. It comes in second place behind T-Mobile by covering 54.66% of the state. That may not seem like a lot, but AT&T has coverage in the areas that count. Those areas are the developed places where most people live. You’ll have excellent AT&T 5G service in all the major Florida cities and along important roadways like Interstate 95.
Best AT&T phone plan
AT&T’s footprint makes it a compelling choice for wireless service in Florida. Our favorite AT&T cell phone plan is its Premium 2.0 option, which includes unlimited talk, text, and data with truly unlimited premium high-speed data. There's also a giant 100GB mobile hotspot.

Best phone plans on AT&T's network
If you like AT&T’s networks but could do without AT&T’s prices, there are plenty of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) that help you save. These smaller carriers don't use their own cellular towers but instead piggyback off of the big networks, so you'll enjoy the same reliable service at much lower costs.
Our favorite AT&T MVNO is Cricket Wireless. You can pick from several plans at various prices, including an enticing unlimited plan with perks like HBO Max with ads and cloud storage for $55/month. Cricket is owned directly by AT&T, so it doesn’t offer some of the deep discounts that other MVNOs do. That said, its partnership does allow for more perks and access to Cricket stores all over the country.
Florida is one of the top retirement destinations in the United States. For seniors spending their golden years in the Sunshine State, Consumer Cellular is a good choice because it is one of the few carriers that offers an AARP discount. You’ll also get J.D. Power award-winning customer service and several plans to pick from. One of the best plans for average data users is the Unlimited Talk, Text, and 5GB data plan for $25/month.
Red Pocket is a solid MVNO that operates on all the major networks including AT&T. It has a variety of plans available, but one of it's most popular is the $20 Monthly Plan that includes 20GB of high-speed data. It also offers hotspot capability and unlimited minutes to the US and over 80 other countries.

Cricket and Consumer Cellular are far from the only MVNOs on AT&T’s network. Check out some of the other popular plans below:
Verizon network coverage in Florida
Verizon offers the best overall 4G LTE network in the nation, but it actually falls in second place for Florida behind AT&T. Still, it’s not behind by much and covers 96.27% of the state. Verizon maintains a powerful 4G LTE network with fast speeds from Jacksonville to Miami.
As for the 5G network, Verizon has the smallest coverage area covering just 24.64% of the state. It’s mostly concentrated in the urban areas, so there’s a good chance you’ll have a solid 5G signal in most cities in Florida. Verizon also utilizes a 5G Ultra Wideband (UWB) network that offers some of the fastest speeds on the market.
The only area where you might struggle to find any kind of signal with Verizon is in the Florida Keys. There are currently only a few blips of service around Key West and most of the islands don’t have any Verizon coverage.
Best Verizon phone plan
Verizon is a great choice for mobile service in Florida if you’re spending a lot of time in urban areas. The best Verizon plan overall is its Unlimited Plus plan. It includes unlimited talk, text, and data with an unlimited allotment of premium high-speed data. There’s also a 30GB mobile hotspot allowance with 5G speeds. Plus, you can sign up for various optional perks like the Disney Bundle for just $10/month each.
Best phone plans on Verizon's network
While Verizon offers excellent 4G LTE coverage and blisteringly fast 5G, its plans don't come cheap. Luckily, Verizon’s network is served by some of the best MVNOs on the market. Buying a plan with them will help you save big.
The best Verizon MVNO is Visible. You can grab an unlimited data plans, including an attractively-priced $25/month option with unlimited talk, text, and data. Plus, Visible's basic plan offers an unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds capped at 5Mbps.
Spectrum Mobile is another great Verizon MVNO. If you already have internet service through Spectrum, bundling your cell service and home internet can be a great way to save money. Spectrum Mobile offers two unlimited plans and a by-the-gig plan. The cheapest unlimited plan starts at $29.99/month and includes 20GB of premium data and a 5GB high-speed mobile hotspot. The hotspot is unlimited, so once you exceed your 5GB high-speed allotment, the hotspot stays active but the speeds can slow.
Looking for a cheap plan on Verizon’s network? We recommend Twigby Mobile. Its budget-friendly plans vary from talk-and-text-only to unlimited data. Notably, Twigby Mobile delivers some of the most affordable plans available for average data users. An unlimited talk and text plan with 10GB of high-speed data starts at just $25/month.

Our favorite T-Mobile MVNO is Mint Mobile. You can cop an unlimited plan for as low as $15/month for new customers (but you'll need to pre-pay for three, six, or 12 months of service upfront). It includes unlimited talk and text plus 50GB of premium data. There’s also a 20GB mobile hotspot. If you use up your high-speed allotment, you’ll still have unlimited data, but your speeds may slow during network congestion.
US Mobile is another great T-Mobile MVNO. It also offers service on Verizon's and AT&T's networks, so you’ll get service with the one that is strongest at your address. There are plenty of plans to choose from, including cheaper shared data plans and three excellent unlimited plans. Its highest unlimited option provides truly unlimited premium data with a 50GB mobile hotspot allotment for $44/month.
Tello is a nice option for customers looking to save a bit more. Its 1GB data plan is one of the cheapest around at just $9/month. We also like its customizable plans for as low as $5/month for a no-data plan.
