Nevertheless, we were impressed with Verizon's blazing-fast 5G speeds in our hands-on testing, so Verizon 5G is superb but not widely available.
Unlike Verizon, US Mobile doesn't operate its own towers. Instead, you'll choose either Verizon's, AT&T's, or T-Mobile's network. Opting for a Verizon network SIM card or eSIM gets you great 4G LTE with reliable rural coverage. On the other hand, T-Mobile features an exceptional 5G network that blankets 49.24% of the country, with 4G LTE service reaching a respectable 61%. In our experience, T-Mobile's service is strong in cities and the suburbs but spotty in rural areas.
Because US Mobile lets you choose between the nation’s best 5G and 4G LTE networks, it’s an excellent option for many folks. You can generally even bring your current phone when switching to US Mobile from Verizon or T-Mobile. On a Warp plan (Verizon's network), US Mobile doesn’t even deprioritize your data until you've hit a certain threshold with its unlimited plans. At that point, it's actually throttled not deprioritized, but at a generous 1Mbps. So unless you're streaming 4K UHD (ultra-high-definition) videos over mobile data on your phone, you shouldn't even notice.
Bottom line: Get the same coverage for half the price
Many people don't realize that you can get the exact same coverage as you would from a Verizon plan by going with a much cheaper MVNO like US Mobile. Verizon offers fully-loaded Unlimited Ultimate and Unlimited Plus packages boasting truly unlimited high-speed data that doesn't slow regardless of how much you use. But US Mobile's unlimited plans each include generous high-speed data thresholds. You actually get completely unlimited priority data since US Mobile throttles your data instead of deprioritizing it. So you'll get the same premium data, but may be throttled to 1Mbps. That's still plenty fast that almost no one will notice unless you're streaming 4K UHD videos on your phone. So US Mobile's cheaper and Starter plan is actually an incredibly competitive value.
Since two hours of high-definition streaming takes up 5GB, you can stream around ten movies in 1080p before you hit 70GB (PSA: watching on a big screen like your TV or projector is more enjoyable). Chances are, most folks won't go over 100GB or even 20GB in a single billing cycle.
Verizon technically provides more with its actually unlimited data plan. But since US Mobile's delivers more than enough for most people (we challenge you to exceed 100GB of mobile data in a month), we're calling this a tie.

Mobile hotspot data lets you tap into internet virtually anywhere you have at least a few bars of service. You can use a cellular signal on your phone to connect devices like laptops, tablets, and game consoles. However, you'll pay twice the price ($90 vs. $44) per month for almost the same amount of mobile hotspot. So unless you need a guaranteed 60GB of mobile hotspot data, US Mobile is a better choice.
