A waterproof phone lets you call, text, and take pictures poolside or at the beach relatively worry-free. Our favorite waterproof cell phones include the Samsung Galaxy S22+, Google Pixel 6, and iPhone 14 Pro. Although no phones are truly waterproof, an Ingress Protection (IP) rated handset provides water resistance for up to 30 minutes in a meter or more of water.

Most popular smartphones feature IP68 or IP67 water resistance, so you can enjoy activities near the water without toting around a phone with design cues from The Terminator. Check out the best splash-resistant phones on the market.

Best Waterproof Android Phones

A bevy of Androids feature water resistance for protection against spills and dunks. Here are the top waterproof handsets from Samsung and Google.

4.5 out of 5 overall

Samsung | Galaxy S22+ | $850—Best waterproof Android phone overall

With its IP68 water resistance, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ is a fantastic handset that handles submersion in 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. You can safely snap pictures at the beach or stream music during a pool party. And if that’s not sufficient, throw your S22+ in a waterproof phone case, which is one of the best Samsung accessories for outdoor adventurers.

Aside from its water and dust resistance, the S22+ sports a gorgeous screen, excellent battery life, and solid build quality. While great, its camera lags behind flagship phones from Google and Apple. If you need a bigger screen and larger battery, consider stepping up to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, or for sweet savings, the vanilla S22 is a reliable option. But for most folks, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ is the best waterproof Android device available.

  • Pros: Withstands 1.5m of water for 30 minutes, stunning display, terrific build quality
  • Cons: Camera not flagship caliber, minor improvements over S21+

OnePlus | 10 Pro 5G | $899—Best value waterproof Android phone

With an outstanding price-to-performance ratio, the feature-rich OnePlus 10 Pro 5G comes IP68-rated. It can go swimming for up to 30 minutes in 1.5m of water which is long enough to retrieve it from the kitchen sink, bathtub, or that way-too-expensive Yeti cooler you absolutely needed.

Under the hood, you’ll find a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, a snappy 120Hz refresh rate that’s great for gaming, and a generous 12-hour battery life. We’d prefer a better telephoto lens, and unfortunately, only the T-Mobile variant comes with an IP rating. Nevertheless, for The Un-carrier’s customers, the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is a good waterproof Android device that lends peace of mind under wet conditions.

  • Pros: Survives 1.5m of water for a half hour, large battery capacity, beefy processor
  • Cons: Only for T-Mobile, average telephoto lens

Google | Pixel 6 | $599—Best budget waterproof Android phone

The Google Pixel 6 is an outstanding Android phone outfitted with IP68 water resistance and a slew of nifty features. Because of its Ingress Protection rating, the Pixel 6 handles immersion in up to 1.5m of water for about half an hour. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus further adds to the Pixel’s toughness. In our experience, we liked the Pixel 6’s stock Android operating system (OS), powerful Tensor processor, and exceptional camera quality.

Although battery life underwhelms, and we noticed some initial bugs, its modest price tag makes the Pixel 6 a value-packed waterproof Android handset. For a bigger screen and improved cameras, check out the Pixel 6 Pro. Or, for a wallet-friendly alternative, consider the Google Pixel 6a. But for a solid, water-resistant phone, the Google Pixel 6 delivers tons of features without breaking the bank.

  • Pros: Handles immersion in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes, durable screen, best-in-class camera
  • Cons: Middling battery life

Best Waterproof iPhones

Apple’s iPhones don’t come cheap, but luckily IP68 water resistance is standard on most modern iOS devices. Let’s dive into the best waterproof iPhone models that aren’t too afraid of water.

4.5 out of 5 overall

Apple | iPhone 14 Pro | $999—Best waterproof iPhone overall

The iPhone 14 Pro isn’t just one of the top Apple handsets on the market, but one of the greatest smartphones, period. Rocking an IP68 water resistance rating, the iPhone 14 Pro withstands up to 19 feet of water for around 30 minutes. Additionally, Apple includes its proprietary Ceramic Shield, which offers robust drop and scratch protection.

Just note that despite having an excellent water resistance rating, we still recommend having an AppleCare+ plan or using a sealed case if you plan to spend a lot of time around water.

We appreciate the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island, which replaces the 13 Pro’s notch, cutting-edge A16 Bionic processor, and best-in-class cameras. Unfortunately, there’s no SIM card tray—you’re limited to eSIM only—and battery life falls short of its predecessor. If you need a bigger screen, consider the iPhone 14 Pro Max. All told, the iPhone 14 Pro is an excellent water- and dust-resistant smartphone. For even more security, add a rugged, waterproof case.

  • Pros: Withstands 19 feet of water for 30 minutes, durable Ceramic Shield screen protection, fantastic camera system
  • Cons: Average battery life, eSIM only

Apple | iPhone 14 | $799—Best midrange waterproof iPhone

While the Pro and Pro Max are Apple’s top-tier smartphones, the standard iPhone 14 is a fabulous choice for all but hardcore power users. You’ll still enjoy amenities like IP68 waterproofing and a durable Ceramic Shield for a moderately worry-free experience (we don’t recommend chucking around a pricey phone, nonetheless).

In our review, we enjoyed the iPhone 14’s awe-inspiring camera quality, advanced safety features, and abundant battery life. Disappointingly, the processor only gets an incremental upgrade from the iPhone 13’s four-core GPU A15 Bionic to the five-core A15 chip in the previous-generation iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. And there’s no physical SIM card tray, at least in the United States. Despite a few minor quibbles, the iPhone 14 once again sets a high bar for both Apple and Android phones.

  • Pros: Survives up to 30 minutes in 19 feet of water, tough screen, generous battery life
  • Cons: Lacks physical SIM tray, iterative processor upgrade

Apple | iPhone SE 3rd Gen 2022 | $429—Best budget waterproof iPhone

Fusing modern specs with retro sensibilities, the iPhone SE 2022 crams a bleeding-edge A15 Bionic processor into a small form factor, creating a phone that’s comfortable to use with one hand. With an IP67 water resistance certification, the Apple iPhone SE 3rd gen (2022) can survive a meter of water for up to 30 minutes. You also get a durable glass screen that resists scratches and dings. While its predecessor features only 4G LTE, the third-generation iPhone SE boasts 5G.

Sadly, there’s no mmWave support, so you won’t get the fastest possible mobile data speeds, although it’s still a significant improvement over 4G. Similarly, the camera lacks a night mode, so low light performance doesn’t match Apple’s flagship handsets. But despite a few shortcomings, the Apple iPhone SE 3rd gen’s IP67 water resistance and tough-as-nails Ceramic Shield make it a sleek yet sturdy iOS device.

  • Pros: Lasts for 30 minutes in a meter of water, 5G compatibility, powerful A15 Bionic chip
  • Cons: No mmWave 5G, lacks camera night mode, only has an IP67 rating
