Apple has released an urgent iOS 18 update for iPhone 16 models. While the update fixes some bugs, new issues like touchscreen problems and battery drain have emerged. Users are unable to downgrade, leaving them waiting for future fixes.
Just three days after launching iOS 18, Apple has released an urgent update for all devices running iOS 18, including the iPhone 16 series as well as older models like the iPhone 14 and 15. The update addresses a range of issues, including touchscreen problems, which were reported not only on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, but also earlier devices.
This comes in the wake of a slew of user challenges, including multiple lingering difficulties with iMessages.
This software is the gift (or curse) that keeps on giving. Here’s the list of additional reported iOS 18 issues.
iPhone touchscreens not responding
- Reported unresponsive areas on the screen are leading to missed taps, ignored swipes, and difficulty scrolling or pressing buttons.
- The virtual keyboard seems to be particularly affected, with users struggling to type accurately due to the touchscreen problems.
- While initially thought to be limited to iPhone 16 Pro models, a growing number of reports suggest the issue is widespread and likely related to iOS 18 itself.
- Experts believe an overly sensitive touch rejection algorithm in the new update may be causing the touchscreen turmoil.
iPhone’s 120Hz refresh rate slowed to 80Hz
- iPhone users claim their device is limited to an 80hZ refresh rate when it is supposed to run at a silk smooth 120Hz.
- This reduced refresh rate may contribute to battery drain and performance issues.
No downgrade allowed from iOS 18 back to to iOS 17
- Users who have updated to iOS 18 are finding it impossible to roll back to the previous iOS 17 version.
- The inability to revert to the previous iOS version leaves users stuck with the current software issues until Apple releases a fix.
Battery life draining from older iPhone models
- Users of earlier iPhone models, particularly the iPhone 15 series, are reporting significant battery drain after making the leap to iOS 18.
- The issue appears to be widespread, with numerous users taking to social media and forums to vent their frustrations and seek answers.
- Some affected users claim their once-reliable iPhones are now struggling to make it through a full day on a single charge, leaving them tethered to power outlets and portable chargers.
Apple has yet to publicly address these concerns, but it is expected that the company will address these problems through future software updates. With the iOS 18 public beta just going live, it will be interesting to see if Apple attempts to fix these issues in the beta version or waits for the official release.
As an owner of a new iPhone 16 Pro Max, I will be keeping you updated on any personal challenges with the device and iOS 18. Stay tuned for further developments.
