Metro by T-Mobile, formerly known as MetroPCS, is a prepaid cell phone carrier that offers affordable cell phone plans. Metro by T-Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network to provide coverage for users, but it does so at a more affordable price compared to T-Mobile’s plans

You can pay as little as $25/month for a Metro by T-Mobile unlimited plan when you choose a family plan with four or more lines. The discounts max out at four lines, so make sure to you can get at least four members on your family plan. These are the best Metro by T-Mobile family plans that help save you money.

Top Metro family plans: Editor's picks

You can always get cheaper data plans if you bundle them together in a family plan. With that in mind, these are the three best Metro by T-Mobile family plans to choose from.

Rest assured, all three of these Metro by T-Mobile offer tons of wireless data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text messages.

Now let’s dive into each Metro by T-Mobile plan and find which option will work best for you.

Metro by T-Mobile Metro $60 Unlimited Plan: Best family plan

Editor's Pick

The best deal right now for Metro by T-Mobile family plans is the $60 prepaid plan with at least three active lines. Check out how the pricing breaks down for customers who opt for the $60 Unlimited Plan family plan.

Metro $60 Unlimited Plan line breakdown
Plan Lines Data Price/Line
$60 Unlimited Plan 4 Unlimited $140/month ($35/line)
$60 Unlimited Plan 3 Unlimited $130/month ($43.30/line)
$60 Unlimited Plan 2 Unlimited $95/month ($47.50/line)

Your eyes don’t deceive you, it’s the same price for a Metro by T-Mobile family plan with three lines as it is for a plan with four lines. For now, Metro by T-Mobile offers a deal where you essentially get the last line for free in a family plan that includes four or more lines. But if you divide it equally, it all breaks down to $35 per line for a $60 Unlimited Plan ($140 total per month). Like we said, if you’re a Metro customer, you really should be on a family prepaid plan to reduce your Metro by T-Mobile bill pay as much as possible.

How to cancel a line on Metro by T-Mobile

If you eventually want to trim down your family plan and remove a line from your Metro service, you’ll need to get in touch with customer service. Keep in mind you can’t cancel a line if you still owe a balance on that line. You’ll need to pay any outstanding balance and then you can remove the line without issue.

Metro $60 Unlimited Plan features

As you would expect, the $60 data plan hooks Metro customers up with unlimited data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text. Of course, if you're paying for the premium unlimited plan, you want all the perks you can get.

You also get:

  • 25GB of mobile hotspot data every month (a lot for a prepaid carrier),
  • 100GB on Google One cloud storage,
  • Unlimited texting to over 210 international destinations

It’s the most feature-rich Metro by T-Mobile data plan, and you can get it for nearly half the price on a family plan.

Family plan discounts max out at five Lines

The more lines you add (maxing out at five lines total), the cheaper your per-line price gets for your Metro by T-Mobile unlimited plan. Even if you have a family plan with six users, you’ll still pay the same price per line that you would pay for a family of five users.

As a general rule of thumb, if you're sold on a Metro by T-Mobile family plan, try to convince three other people to join in the family plan so you all pay the cheapest amount possible for an unlimited cell phone plan.

Metro $50 Unlimited Plan: Best value unlimited plan

Editor's Pick

The $50 data plan is the middle-of-the-road option for Metro customers that want to straddle the line between perks and affordability. Here’s how the pricing breaks down for family plans:

Metro Flex Unlimited Plan line breakdown
Plan Lines Data Price/Line
$50 Unlimited Plan 4 Unlimited $120/month ($30/line)
$50 Unlimited Plan 3 Unlimited $110/month ($36.67/line)
$50 Unlimited Plan 2 Unlimited $80/month ($40/line)

As is always the case, the more lines you add to your MetroPCS family plan, the better the discount gets. Granted, you can score a less expensive unlimited prepaid plan on other carriers. Boost and Cricket both offer $100 4-line unlimited plans. However, Boost doesn't offer as much hotspot for the money, and Cricket's cheaper unlimited plan lacks the hotspot and perks. Overall, Metro’s $50 plan still offers solid value for customers—but not quite as much as what you can get with the $60 unlimited plan.

Metro by T-Mobile $50 Plan Features

Naturally, customers can expect unlimited data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text, with a few perks added on top of the essentials:

  • 8GB of mobile hotspot data
  • 100GB of cloud storage from Google One

It’s not exactly a treasure trove of perks, but the price still feels fair.

Metro 10GB Data Plan: Best cheap data plan

Editor's Pick

The $40 Metro by T-Mobile cell phone plan comes with unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 10GB of data. It’s a pretty barebones cell phone plan that doesn’t come with much in the way of perks. You don’t get any mobile hotspot data or free subscriptions, but you do get enough data for an average user to stream music on an affordable data plan. Here’s how the pricing breaks down based on the number of lines in your family plan.

Starter Plan line breakdown
Plan Lines Data Price/Line
10GB Data Plan 5 Unlimited $100/month ($25/line)
10GB Data Plan 4 Unlimited $100/month ($25/line)
10GB Data Plan 3 Unlimited $90/month ($30/line)
10GB Data Plan 2 Unlimited $65/month ($32.50/line)

Compared to the two unlimited plans, the $40 Metro by T-Mobile plan is the least expensive option of the bunch. The cheapest amount you can pay for the $40 plan bundled in a family plan is $25/month per line, or $125/month total for five lines.

Unless you’re married to the idea of the most affordable unlimited plan, you’re probably better off opting for either the $50 or $60 Metro by T-Mobile family plans since those include 8GB or 25GB of hotspot plus Google cloud storage.

Free data for streaming music

The $40 data plan doesn’t come with much in terms of perks, but you do get free unlimited data for streaming music. Go ahead, stream all your playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal, Amazon Prime Music, Pandora without stressing about data.

Metro by T-Mobile coverage network

Metro by T-Mobile uses T-Mobiles network to provide cell service and wireless data. For context, here’s the carrier rankings for 4G LTE wireless coverage in the United States:

  • Verizon: 70% 4G LTE cell phone coverage
  • AT&T: 68% 4G LTE cell phone coverage
  • T-Mobile: 62% 4G LTE cell phone coverage

While T-Mobile technically comes in last place for 4G LTE coverage, it actually currently leads the pack for the 5G rollout:

5G coverage compared

Carrier Nationwide 5G coverage View details
T-Mobile 49.24% View Plans
AT&T 41.11% View Plans
Verizon 21.04% View Plans

Being a T-Mobile property, Metro stands to gain from all the expanding 5G network. Check out the Metro by T-Mobile coverage map below to get an idea to expect in terms of coverage.

Your data speeds can throttle

Because Metro by T-Mobile is a smaller carrier operating on T-Mobile’s larger network, it’s possible that Metro customers can experience reduced data speeds during peak-usage periods. For example, let’s say you, a Metro customer, suddenly find that you can’t refresh your Twitter feed at a crowded concert. Your friend, a T-Mobile customer, has no problem refreshing their feed and posting Instagram stories.

This happens because the network may favor T-Mobile customers over Metro customers if there’s less data to go around.

Best Metro by T-Mobile cell phones

You can get pretty much any cell phone with your Metro by T-Mobile plan, including iPhone 15, iPhone 14, Google Pixel 7, and  Samsung Galaxy S23 devices. In fact, Metro regularly runs cell phone deals (almost as good as T-Mobile’s cell phone deals) that you should check out before signing up for a data plan.

FYI: You may need to hit up your local Metro store to take advantage of some cell phone deals. You can double-check with Metro by T-Mobile customer service if you have any problems making the deals work.

Metro by T-Mobile family plans recap

To recap, here's our breakdown of the best Metro by T-Mobile family plans:

  • $60 Unlimited Plan: Best value family plan to get unlimited data combined with awesome perks, like 25GB of hotspot data.
  • $50 Unlimited Plan: Best value unlimited data plan. It's the same as the $60 unlimited plan except with less hotspot data (8GB vs. 25GB).
  • 10GB Data Plan: Best budget data plan. If you don't need mobile hotspot data, Metro by T-Mobile's $40 plan is a great choice. You save money every month by opting for this as a family plan.

All in all, going the family plan route is the smartest way to reduce the number you see in your Metro by T-Mobile bill pay. By far, the best deal is the Metro $60 Unlimited Plan on a family plan that includes four or more lines. The price-per-line reduces to $35 a line with five lines for a cell phone plan that certainly feels like it should cost more.

Whether you’ve been a fan since the Metro PCS days or are just now considering moving to a prepaid carrier, Metro by T-Mobile hooks customers up with affordable cell phone plans on a reliable network. Make sure to read our Metro by T-Mobile review for all the details before signing up.
