Being a part of a family has several obvious benefits, like emotional support, constant companionship, and unconditional love. But if you ask us, the really great thing about being a member of a close-knit group is… lower cell phone plan rates

Several phone carriers offer top-notch family plans with multi-line discounts or plan bundling, charging less per line for each additional line on the account. Although they are not known for being cheap, Verizon's plans start to get downright affordable with multiple family members added. Verizon allows you to have as many as 10 lines, but multi-line discounts start at just two. We'll take a deep look into Verizon's family plans and help you find the one that's right for you and your crew.

How we picked the best Verizon family plans
  • Price & value
  • We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing on the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
  • We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price, and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Plan extras and perks
  • If you get discounted Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

Verizon myPlan | From $30/line

Verizon's myPlan offering allows you to customize your plan with three tiers of base plans and extra perks like discounted streaming service subscriptions. So, why are we lumping in all three of the myPlan plans together? Simple! Because Verizon allows you to do the same. You can mix and match from the different tiers to build your family plan.

For example, one member of the family could enjoy the high-end Unlimited Ultimate plan, while another could have the entry-level Unlimited Welcome, and a third member could split the difference with Unlimited Plus. This family of three would get the three-line rate for each line.

Here's a look at the mix and match rates per line for the myPlan offerings:

Verizon myPlan monthly cost per line
Plan Base price 2 lines 3 lines 4 lines
Unlimited Welcome $65/line $55/line  $40/line $30/line
Unlimited Plus $80/line $70/line $55/line $45/line
Unlimited Ultimate $90/line $80/line $65/line $55/line

So in our example, the family of three would be paying $40/month for the Unlimited Welcome plan, $55/month for the Unlimited Plus plan, and $65/month for the Unlimited Ultimate plan, for a total of $160/month. At the regular single-line rate, those three plans together would total $235/month.

Want Verizon coverage for half the price?

Many people don't realize that you can get the exact same coverage as you would from a Verizon plan by going with a much cheaper MVNO. Visible offers unlimited everything with Big Red's 4G and 5G coverage for just $25/month for any line—that’s cheaper than the cheapest multi-line price from Verizon. We especially love that you can opt for 50GB up to the fastest 5G speeds, plus spam-blocking and global calling benefits, for just a few bucks more.

What does each Verizon myPlan include?

Here's a look at the basic specs of each myPlan tier:

  • Unlimited Welcome
    • Unlimited talk, text, and data (Verizon might slow your speeds down during heavy network congestion)
    • Access to Verizon's standard 5G network (faster than 4G LTE but not the fastest)
  • Unlimited Plus
    • Unlimited talk, text, and premium data (Verizon will not slow your speeds)
    • 30GB of dedicated hotspot data
    • Access to Verizon 5G and 5G Ultra Wideband (Verizon's fastest network)
  • Unlimited Ultimate
    • Unlimited talk text, and premium data
    • 60GB of dedicated hotspot data
    • International data, talk, and text in over 210 countries

The Unlimited Welcome Plan

The Unlimited Welcome plan is a great option for the user in your family who doesn't rely on mobile data to keep them constantly connected to the internet to stream their favorite TV shows and play games. The plan is capable of supporting those types of activities, but with the potential for slower speeds, you might not want to count on it. This is the plan for somebody who uses their phone quite a bit but doesn't require consistently fast data. With no dedicated hotspot, this plan is not a good option for somebody who counts on keeping other devices connected to the internet with their mobile data.

The Unlimited Plus Plan

Unlimited Plus is ideal for the person in your family who uses their phone for more data-intensive activities, like streaming high-definition video, playing online games, or frequently using the mobile hotspot feature to connect other devices to the internet. The inclusion of 30GB of dedicated hotspot data ensures that you can rely on a strong and steady connection for laptops, tablets, or other phones, making it perfect for professionals who need to work remotely or students who study on the go. Additionally, access to both Verizon 5G and the 5G Ultra Wideband network means users will experience some of the fastest available speeds, reducing buffering times and enhancing the overall mobile internet experience. When we reviewed the Unlimited Plus plan in our hands-on Verizon testing, we were impressed with the reliable 5G speeds.

The Unlimited Ultimate Plan

The Unlimited Ultimate user looks a lot like the Unlimited Plus user. In fact, given that this is the most expensive of the three plans, we suggest you give it a good long thought before signing any of your family members up for this one rather than Unlimited Plus. The added mobile hotspot and international data perks are great for the person who is constantly on the go, but that's a very specific type of user, and there's a strong chance most people will find Unlimited Plus to be more than enough.

Perk up your Verizon myPlan

Verizon gives you the chance to spice up your phone plan with perks like the Disney Bundle or Apple One. These will cost you an extra $10/month for each perk, but that is cheaper than what you'd normally pay for the subscriptions. And if you’re already paying for any of these services, it’s a chance to lower your overall monthly bills by having Verizon subsidize some of the cost.

Other available perks include:

  • Netflix & Max with ads
  • Walmart+ membership
  • Apple Music Family
  • 100GB of mobile hotspot
  • And more

Best Prepaid Verizon Family Plan

4 out of 5 overall

Verizon Unlimited Plus | From $44/line

Not to be mistaken with the myPlan Unlimited Plus option, the Unlimited Plus prepaid plan is Verizon's premium prepaid offering. At $60/month for a single line, your per-line price decreases as you start adding more. Here's how the monthly pricing breaks down:

  • 2 lines: $50/line
  • 3 lines: $46.67/line
  • 4 lines: $45/line
  • 5 lines: $44/line

The Unlimited Plus prepaid plan comes with:

  • Unlimited talk, text, and data (50GB of premium high speeds)
  • Access to Verizon 5G and 5G Ultra Wideband

This plan is best for the family that prioritizes high-speed internet and extensive data usage. The 50GB of premium data per line ensures that family members can stream, game, download, and browse with speeds that won't slow down until they reach that high threshold, making it ideal for households with heavy internet users.

How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans

WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate Verizon's family plans. We analyzed cost and plan options, considering plan-specific elements including perks, premium data allowances, and mobile hotspot allocations. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the best plans we feel meet the needs of most families.
