WhistleOut fast facts
- Echostar has combined its Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite subsidiaries into one brand (Boost Mobile).
- Boost Mobile now offers both postpaid and prepaid plan options.
- Current customers of both brands will have their plans grandfathered into the new brand.
Parent company Echostar has completed a merger of its two cellular brands, combining the prepaid carrier Boost Mobile and the postpaid carrier Boost Infinite into the now-rebranded Boost Mobile. The Boost Mobile brand has been well-established for years. This move puts the relatively new Boost Infinite under the umbrella of the known entity.
Why merge Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite?
This brand merger attempts to completely erase the already blurred lines between prepaid and postpaid plans. Boost Mobile now gives customers the chance to pick between its core plans and pay for the plan however they choose. The Infinite Access plan is only available for postpaid customers.
The merger does not have competition implications in the mobile industry. These are two sister brands that are simply becoming one.
What this means for current Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite customers
Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite customers should have already received notifications from Boost informing them of the brand merger. Current plans are being grandfathered into the new brand and customers will not have to take significant steps, though customers have been encouraged to download the new Boost Mobile app for account management.
There are no significant infrastructure changes with this merger. Customers are not expected to need new devices, SIMs, or phone numbers and will continue to have service on the same network.
The new Boost Mobile lineup
The new set of Boost Mobile plans might seem familiar to those who have recently shopped and compared Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite plans. For example, the base Unlimited plan with "forever" pricing is essentially a copy of the Boost Infinite plan.
The new lineup consists of three core plans, which can be purchased as postpaid or prepaid plans. Additionally, a fourth postpaid-only Infinite Access plan, which includes annual phone upgrades, is available. Here are some highlights of each plan:
- Unlimited (prepaid or postpaid):
- $25/month
- No price increases as long as the plan is active
- 30GB of high-speed data
- Unlimited+ (prepaid or postpaid):
- $50/month
- 40GB of high-speed data
- Mobile hotspot
- Unlimited Premium (prepaid or postpaid):
- $60/month
- 50GB of high-speed data
- Mobile hotspot
- Infinite Access (postpaid):
- $65/month
- New iPhone or Samsung Galaxy included
- Annual upgrade available
- 30GB of high-speed data
