The price of a smartphone seems to go up each year with each new launch. The newest iPhone 17 series starts at $799 for the base model but goes up to $1,199 for the Pro Max. That's quite the departure from the $499 price tag of the OG iPhone.

Samsung and Google have followed this trend, though some of their "budget-friendly" models, like the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G, will only set you back $600.

The best way to score a cheap smartphone is to take advantage of carrier deals. This could be a switching incentive, a BOGO deal, a trade-in offer, or a pre-order promotion. Either way, you'll likely purchase the phone via monthly installments from a major carrier like Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T. We've found some fantastic deals on iPhones, Samsung, Google Pixels, and more so you can get a new cell phone without having to mortgage your house.

Cheap iPhones less than $30/month

The Apple iPhone isn't exactly known for being cheap, but by taking advantage of carrier deals or choosing the right model, you do not have to pay an arm and a leg for one. Older models like the iPhone SE or iPhone 14 will cost less than the latest iPhone lineup.

We've found cheap iPhones that cost less than $300 upfront, and the monthly bill is less than $30/month. If these models don't speak to you, check out more iPhone deals from carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile.

How do I get a free phone?

If you have a phone to trade in and you are ready to switch to any of the major carriers, you should be able to get a phone for free. Also, if you qualify for government assistance, you may be able to get a free phone and plan.
