Spectrum Mobile Cell Phone Plans
With Spectrum Mobile, you've got a choice between two plan types: Unlimited data packages and a Pay By the Gig option. Each of its cell phone plans includes unlimited talk and text. The base Unlimited plan starts at $30/month for a single line.
Unlimited Plus sets you back $40/month for one line or $39.99/line per month with its multi-line savings.
What we like: Affordable prices
Compared to Verizon, Spectrum Mobile plans are reasonably priced. Its vanilla Unlimited package starts at $30/month for a single line. Even the top-shelf Unlimited Plus package costs only $40/month for one line. There are also excellent deals on top Spectrum Mobile smartphones.
What we like: Nationwide Wi-Fi hotspots
Most MVNOs lower your monthly bill by eschewing perks, and Spectrum Mobile mostly follows suit. However, you’ll appreciate free access to millions of Wi-Fi hotspots around the country. Therefore, Spectrum lets you stay connected without burning through your precious mobile data—an especially nice touch for folks on its By the Gig plan.
What we don’t like: Only for Spectrum home internet subscribers
Spectrum Mobile is compelling with its affordable unlimited data plan, outstanding 4G LTE network, and free Wi-Fi hotspots. But there's a small catch: it's only available for Spectrum home internet customers. The good news is that, for a cable ISP, Spectrum delivers reliable speeds at reasonable prices. If you're using Spectrum as your internet service provider (ISP), you can bundle your home and mobile internet. Otherwise, consider another Verizon MVNO.
What we don’t like: Lack of perks
Like most MVNOs, Spectrum Mobile doesn’t offer many perks. Whereas most bigger carriers offer amenities such as streaming service subscriptions, Spectrum Mobile’s barebones plans get you the basics: talk, text, and web. Although you’ll enjoy limited international calling and messaging and free nationwide Spectrum Wi-Fi hotspots, we’d appreciate a few more goodies.
Spectrum Mobile Coverage
Spectrum Mobile's coverage map has a huge leg up on much of its competition. Backed by Verizon’s network, Spectrum Mobile customers can expect an unrivaled 4G LTE network that spans 71% of the nation. Verizon leads the big three carriers (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) with its 4G LTE service.
Unfortunately, Verizon and its MVNOs like Spectrum Mobile have a 5G network that only reaches 12.77% of the country. That's well behind T-Mobile (53.79%) and AT&T (29.52%). Nevertheless, Spectrum Mobile's Verizon-backed 5G boasts blisteringly-fast upload and download speeds (where available).
Spectrum Mobile vs. Competitors
After reviewing Spectrum Mobile's strong suits and areas for improvement, let's discuss how it stacks up against the competition.
Spectrum Mobile vs. Verizon
Verizon properly trounces Spectrum Mobile in nearly every category—except price. Although Verizon’s unlimited plans may get you discounted streaming perks, high data deprioritization thresholds, and generous mobile hotspot data allowances, you’ll shell out significantly more for those benefits. By contrast, Spectrum Mobile provides affordable phone plan essentials. For a more in-depth analysis, check out our Spectrum Mobile vs. Verizon comparison.
Spectrum Mobile vs. smaller carriers
Comparing an MVNO with its parent carrier is like comparing apples and oranges. For a more fair analysis, let's see how Spectrum Mobile matches up against its fellow MVNOs.
Spectrum Mobile vs. other MVNOs

Spectrum Mobile vs. Xfinity Mobile
While it's basically a draw, we give a minor edge to Spectrum Mobile. Both Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile offer nearly identical unlimited plans and prices. They both also use the Verizon network (along with Cox Mobile). The two MVNOs even restrict wireless access to their respective home internet subscribers.
- Affordable unlimited data plans
- Nationwide free Wi-Fi hotspots
- Only available for Spectrum internet customers
- Reasonably-priced unlimited plans
- Free Wi-Fi hotspots around the country
- Limited to Xfinity internet subscribers
Spectrum Mobile vs. Visible Wireless
Visible Wireless is one of our favorite Verizon-powered MVNOs with its affordable $25/month, $35/month, and $45/month unlimited data plans. You’ll pay less with Visible for a buffet of data, and the Visible+ and Visible+ Pro plans provide unlimited premium data along with 5G ultra-wideband speeds.
Visible's unlimited plans are also cheaper than Spectrum Mobile's ($25 and $45 compared to $45 and $55, respectively). For these reasons, as well as Visible’s ISP-agnostic nature—meaning anyone can sign up for a plan—we recommend it in this head-to-head.
- Multiple plans and prices
- Verizon-powered MVNO
- Only for Spectrum ISP customers
- Cheap unlimited data plans
- Runs on Verizon’s network
- No limited data options
Spectrum Mobile vs. Mint Mobile
Mint Mobile is one of our favorite MVNOs here at WhistleOut, and with good reason. The Ryan Reynolds-owned brand piggybacks off of T-Mobile's network, giving customers access to the best 5G coverage and speeds in the country, since "The Un-Carrier" leads AT&T and Verizon with its 53% nationwide 5G coverage area. That said, its 4G LTE service isn't as robust as Verizon's and, as such, Spectrum Mobile's, giving Spectrum the slight edge in terms of 4G LTE reliability and accessibility. But Mint has an ace card in its plan variety and pricing.
Where Spectrum offers two unlimited plans plus a by-the-gig option, Mint provides 4 different tiers of data plans to meet a variety of usage needs, all at much lower prices than Spectrum's costs. A single gigabyte of data with Spectrum costs $14; with Mint, you get 5GB for $15. Spectrum's base unlimited option cost the same as Mint's lone unlimited plan, but Mint gives you 30GB more premium data for the price (20GB with Spectrum Mobile vs. 50GB with Mint Mobile). And Spectrum's Unlimited Premium plan, which is $10/month more than Mint's plan, still comes up 30GB short in comparison.
Both carriers provide free hotspot access and free Mexico/Canada calling, pulling them closer in line with one another, and Mint's multi-month prepaid pricing (paid in 3, 6, or 12 months) is something we've always had a slight gripe about. But we think Mint's 5G superiority, affordability, and plan variety give it a slight edge over Spectrum's better 4G coverage.
- Runs on Verizon's network
- Spectrum Wi-Fi hotspot access
- Limited 5G availability
- Best 5G footprint
- Super affordable prices
- Must prepay for multiple months
Recap: Is Spectrum Mobile Right for You?
Ultimately, Spectrum Mobile is a fantastic choice for existing or future Spectrum home internet customers. It provides Verizon mobile network excellence at a fraction of its parent carrier cost.
As a Spectrum Mobile customer, here’s what you’ll enjoy:
- Top-notch 4G LTE coverage
- Modestly-priced unlimited data plans
- Budget-oriented low-data tier
- Large high-speed deprioritization thresholds (unlimited plans only)
- Free nationwide Spectrum Wi-Fi hotspot access
While we don't recommend going out of your way to switch to Spectrum internet—fiber is better where available–its mobile service is a great option for eligible subscribers. We'd prefer more perks, but most MVNOs are pretty no-frills to keep your monthly bill low. And its 5G network falls well short of the competition, although that's a Verizon issue, not a fault of Spectrum. In the end, Spectrum Mobile holds its own against fellow Verizon MVNOs. It remains a worthy consideration for Spectrum ISP clients. If you're ready to make the leap, shop Spectrum Mobile plans here.
