WhistleOut fast facts
  • Visible is offering its base unlimited plan for $15/month per line, with pricing locked in for five years
  • Only customers switching from T-Mobile are eligible for this promotion
  • T-Mobile switchers could save up to $85/month, equaling $5,100 over five years
  • Visible is owned and operated by Verizon, marking a proxy battle between two of the three major U.S. networks

Visible today announced a promotion aimed directly at a significant share of the wireless market: T-Mobile customers. For a limited time, anyone switching from T-Mobile to Visible can get unlimited data for just $15/month per line—and your price is guaranteed for five years.

Typically priced at $25/month, Visible's base-level unlimited plan is already one of the most affordable options on the wireless market. This promo brings it in line with pricing you typically only see offered with limited data plans that include 5-10GB per month.

Visible is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) owned by Verizon. This promotion—launched in response to a similar pitch by T-Mobile-owned carrier Mint Mobile—pits the smaller operator directly against the major carrier and its respective MVNO carriers. In turn, it seems to help Verizon gain market share against one of its largest competitors.

How to get Visible's "$15 for 5 years" promo: The fine print

To be eligible for this limited-time pricing, you must first be a current T-Mobile customer—and only a T-Mobile customer. Visible (and by proxy, its parent carrier, Verizon) is not currently aiming its sights on AT&T's market share with this deal. Your T-Mobile plan must also be postpaid (i.e., one of its Essentials, Magenta, or Go5G plans); prepaid T-Mobile customers are not eligible.

You must switch to Visible and sign up for the carrier's base-tier unlimited plan, called the Visible plan (not to be confused with its premium Visible+ or Visible+ Pro options). You must also bring your phone and port your current phone number over to Visible's network. There are no additional discounts for porting multiple numbers—each line will get its own $15 Visible plan.

At checkout, enter the promo code BYEBYETMO to get the discount. Once your plan is activated, Visible guarantees your price is locked in for five years. All taxes and fees are included in the $15 price tag.

What does the Visible plan include?

Visible's base-tier plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data on Verizon's 4G LTE and 5G Nationwide networks, long touted as providing the country's most extensive and reliable coverage. You also get an unlimited hotspot at speeds of 5Mbps and unlimited calls and texts to Mexico and Canada.

Note that the 5G Nationwide network differs from Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband (UWB) network. The 5G Nationwide network speeds are slightly faster than 4G LTE. The UWB 5G network is significantly faster and gives customers access to Verizon's millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G network. Only Visible's top-tier Visible+ plan offers access to the 5G UWB network.

Why is Visible targeting T-Mobile customers?

Visible is owned by Verizon and operates on the major carrier's network. We often see the Big Three (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) using their owned-and-operated MVNOs to wage proxy battles against their main competitors in an effort to keep their own plan prices high while still targeting budget-minded shoppers.

This announcement is also a direct response to a recent promotion from Mint Mobile, a T-Mobile-owned MVNO. Aimed squarely at customers switching from AT&T and Verizon, Mint's offer allows customers to purchase any 3-month plan package for $15/month—a total cost of $45—and add up to five additional lines for free. The catch: Customers must switch from AT&T or Verizon to qualify for the deal. Visible's specificity in targeting customers switching from T-Mobile appears to be an attempt to level the playing field.

Why switch from T-Mobile to Visible?

There are two notable reasons Visible is an appealing choice over T-Mobile: price and coverage.

As mentioned, Visible's basic unlimited plan is typically $25/month. The promotional pricing means switchers will save $10/month on the standard Visible plan price for a total savings of $600 over five years of the price guarantee.

Those cost savings get even deeper when compared to a T-Mobile unlimited plan. Here's how the cost difference breaks down for each T-Mobile unlimited plan after switching to the $15 Visible plan.

T-Mobile plan Monthly
price

(via Visible)
Total savings
over 5 years
Essentials Saver $50/mo $35/mo $2,100
Essentials $60/mo $45/mo $2,700
Magenta $70/mo $55/mo $3,300
Magenta MAX $85/mo $70/mo $4,200
Go5G $75/mo $60/mo $3,600
Go5G Plus $90/mo $75/mo $4,500
Go5G Next $100/mo $85/mo $5,100

Additionally, as a Verizon MVNO, Visible offers access to the most reliable 4G LTE network in the country. While 5G is the future of cell phone technology, 4G LTE is still the predominant network type throughout the U.S., and T-Mobile's 4G LTE coverage is ranked third behind Verizon and AT&T. It's also notoriously poor in rural areas of the country.

That said, T-Mobile's 5G network footprint dominates both AT&T's and Verizon's, with the latter bringing up the rear in terms of availability and average speed. If you're a T-Mobile customer satisfied with the carrier's 5G network, you may want to check your local coverage to see whether Verizon's 5G is strong in your area. If not, switching to a T-Mobile MVNO (like Mint Mobile) may be a better choice.
