Spectrum and Optimum each offer customers internet speeds that climb into the multi-gig range, but instead of topping out at 7Gbps like Spectrum, Optimum's speeds continue climbing all the way to 8Gbps. So if it's raw speed you need, then Optimum's got you covered.

Connection type has a lot to do with speed. Spectrum runs a fiber-powered coax network across its whole footprint, whereas Optimum sells both a fiber-powered coax network and true fiber-to-the-home service in parts of its territory. Optimum's fiber tiers deliver symmetrical upload and download speeds, which its coax plans can't match, and that's key in Optimum's speed advantage here. The catch is that fiber availability is patchy inside Optimum's own footprint, so plenty of addresses there are coax-only.

At the $40 mark, Spectrum gives you more speed for the money: Spectrum Internet 500 runs $40/month for 500Mbps, while Optimum's entry plan is $35/month for 300Mbps. Spectrum Internet 1 Gig then lands at $60/month, which is a strong rate for gigabit service.

Promotional pricing is one aspect of Optimum's and Spectrum's monthly pricing that customers will want to watch out for. Both Optimum and Spectrum raise their prices after 12 months of service.

Data Allowance

Both Optimum and Spectrum offer their customers unlimited data, no matter which plan you've signed up for. This means that you'll never pay overages or have your internet slowed down due to your data usage at any point with either company.

Both Spectrum and Optimum offer bundle packages for internet plus home phone and/or TV.

Even though both Spectrum and Optimum offer customers TV and phone bundle deals, Optimum's TV bundles go above and beyond by offering customers nearly 100 more channels than Spectrum. On top of that, for around the same price, Optimum will give you about 100Mbps more bandwidth than Spectrum will.

Even though bundle package features are often super subjective—thus generally hard to compare, few would deny that more channels and faster browsing speeds are exactly what every customer looks for in a TV bundle.
