MobileX is an MVNO running on Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks. As a smaller carrier, it offers customers discounted access to Verizon’s widespread coverage and fast data speeds.
With its plan options, MobileX sets itself apart by offering a customizable data plan—called Need A Hand Plan—and two unlimited data plans. The Need A Hand Plan starts at $3.48/month and includes a free 10-day learning period that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to predict your needs.
Read on for all the information you need on MobileX’s phone plans and free trial. We’ll also tell you how to switch carriers if you decide to sign up with MobileX.
MobileX Need A Hand Plan
MobileX offers customizable talk, text, and data allotments through its Need A Hand Plan plan. This limited data plan is a flexible option for customers who know exactly how much data they use.
The base Need A Hand Plan starts at $3.48/month and includes 50 minutes of talk and 50 texts. It does not include data. Additional texts, minutes, and data cost:
- $2.50/month per 150 minutes and 150 texts
- $1.90 per 1GB high-speed data
- $4.50/month for unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada
- $4.50/month for unlimited talk and text
- $10/day for international roaming
You can also purchase optional extras like international coverage and data top-ups. Any leftover data you purchase rolls over as a credit on the next month’s bill. It’s too small for most users, but it’s a great way for people who only need basic connectivity to score a cheap phone plan.

If you don’t know how much data you use, MobileX has you covered. It offers a free 10-day eSIM trial period to test the service. While on the plan, the MobileX app tracks your usage and uses AI to forecast your monthly data needs. At the end of the trial, MobileX presents you with a custom plan or recommends one of its unlimited plans if you’re a heavy data user.
The 10-day trial is a great deal, but it’s not cheap: it requires purchasing a SIM card or eSIM, and a one-time $1.98 fee for a new phone number.
Pro tip: Check your monthly data usage
MobileX’s trial only lasts for 10 days. That means the data might be skewed by an abnormal day or misinterpreted by MobileX’s AI.
At the end of the trial, we recommend checking your mobile data usage in your phone’s settings to ensure it matches the MobileX forecast. You should also look at your app usage to get a rough idea of how much mobile data you need to engage in basic activities, like scrolling social media and streaming videos, in a general month.
MobileX unlimited plans
MobileX considers customers who use more than 10GB of data to be heavy users. For these customers, the carrier offers two unlimited plans.
The Unlimited 10 plan starts at $14.88/month and includes:
- 10GB of premium data
- 10GB mobile hotspot (uses premium data allotment)
- Unlimited talk and text
The Unlimited 30 plan starts at $24.88/month and includes:
- 30GB of premium data
- 10GB mobile hotspot (uses premium data allotment)
- Unlimited talk and text
- Unlimited talk and text to 100+ countries, including Mexico and Canada
If you use the entire premium data allotment on either plan, your speeds will slow for the remainder of your plan period. Unlike the Personalized Access plan, unused data does not roll over.
Additionally, for an extra $5/month, you can add MobileX's Gold Network Priority Access that gives you priority data during times of network congestion. If you don't need Gold Network access throughout the entire month, you can purchase Priority Access data on demand as you need it for $2.10/GB.
MobileX network
All of MobileX’s plans operate on Verizon’s network. You can check out MobileX's coverage in the Verizon map above.
Verizon offers the nation’s largest 4G LTE network, so MobileX users should have excellent coverage in rural areas. The Verizon 5G network is smaller than AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s, but it covers most cities and offers incredibly fast speeds.
Keep in mind that MobileX—as a Verizon MVNO—will sometimes be subject to deprioritization. This means MobileX users may be slowed down in crowded areas with lots of network traffic in order to keep regular Verizon users at faster speeds. That said, Verizon’s network is so robust that this should resolve quickly and won’t be a major issue for most customers.
How to switch to MobileX?
If you’re ready to switch to MobileX, the carrier makes it incredibly easy. In general, you’ll order a MobileX SIM kit, download the MobileX app, and pick a phone plan. The carrier sells both physical SIM cards and eSIMs. You may also find the physical SIM kits on sale at retailers like Walmart.
You will need to make sure your phone is eligible to leave your current carrier. This typically includes:
- Fully paying off your device
- Unlocking your phone
- Paying your current phone bill
- Contacting your carrier to transfer your phone number
