MobileX is an MVNO operating on Verizon’s network. That means it's a smaller carrier that offers discounted access to the nation’s largest 4G LTE network and incredibly fast 5G speeds.
MobileX provides a wide range of plans that will meet most customers' needs, with customizable limited plans and unlimited options. That said, how do you know if MobileX and Verizon’s coverage is the best choice for your plan?
Let’s dive into MobileX’s coverage and plans to see how the carrier stacks up against other Verizon MVNOs as well as the other major carrier networks.
MobileX coverage map
MobileX uses Verizon’s towers, which means it has access to the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. Unfortunately, that also means it operates on the country’s smallest 5G network. You can use the interactive map above to see the coverage in your specific location.
MobileX’s 4G LTE network
MobileX’s 4G LTE network has nationwide coverage since it operates on Verizon’s network. You can see how the major 4G LTE networks compare below:
- Verizon (MobileX): 70% 4G LTE signal coverage
- AT&T: 68% 4G LTE signal coverage
- T-Mobile: 62% 4G LTE signal coverage
Verizon—and, by extension, MobileX—offers some of the best rural coverage of any major carrier thanks to its 4G LTE network. While 4G LTE doesn’t always offer the fastest speeds, it’s still fast enough for most users and is often more reliable than 5G.
MobileX’s 5G network
While MobileX has access to an expansive 4G LTE network, its 5G coverage is less impressive. Verizon’s 5G network is the smallest in the nation, trailing T-Mobile and AT&T by a wide margin. That said, it still offers incredibly fast speeds where it’s available. Our 5G speed testing comparisons have shown Verizon 5G has an 84.9Mbps average download speed.
You can see how Verizon’s 5G coverage compares to AT&T and T-Mobile below:
- T-Mobile: 49.24% 5G signal coverage
- AT&T: 41.11% 5G signal coverage
- Verizon (MobileX): 21.04% 5G signal coverage
Verizon and MobileX offer excellent 5G coverage in and around most cities in the United States. While the coverage map is small, the number of people covered is large. If you spend most of your time in urban areas, MobileX’s 5G will likely provide you with fast and reliable speeds.
MobileX plans
MobileX offers its Verizon coverage through a customized personal plan and two unlimited data plans.
Need A Hand Plan
The Need A Hand Plan plan starts at $3.48/month. It’s a customizable limited data plan that allows you to build the perfect plan to meet your needs. It starts with 50 minutes and 50 texts. Adding additional minutes, texts, and data costs:
- $2.50/month per 150 minutes and 150 texts
- $1.90 per 1GB high-speed data
- $4.50/month for unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada
- $4.50/month for unlimited talk and text
- $10/day for international roaming
MobileX offers a free 10-day learning period on the Need A Hand Plan if you don't know how much data you use. The MobileX app will measure your data use and recommend a plan to meet your needs.

MobileX unlimited plans
MobileX also offers two unlimited plans:
The Unlimited 10 plan starts at $14.88/month and includes:
- 10GB of premium data
- 10GB mobile hotspot (uses premium data allotment)
- Unlimited talk and text
The Unlimited 30 plan starts at $24.88/month and includes:
- 30GB of premium data
- 10GB mobile hotspot (uses premium data allotment)
- Unlimited talk and text
- Unlimited talk and text to 100+ countries, including Mexico and Canada
If you use the entire premium data allotment on either plan, your speeds will slow for the remainder of your plan period. Additionally, for an extra $5/month, you can add MobileX's Gold Network Priority Access that gives you priority data during times of network congestion. If you don't need Gold Network access throughout the entire month, you can purchase Priority Access data on demand as you need it for $2.10/GB. International roaming is also available as a paid add-on.
Other Verizon MVNOs
There are multiple Verizon MVNOs out there, so if MobileX doesn’t have a plan you like, you can still find other options that use the same network.
Visible is one of the most popular options. It’s a Verizon-owned carrier with two unlimited plans. The Visible plan starts at just $25/month and offers:
- Unlimited 5G data (subject to deprioritization)
- Unlimited mobile hotspot (limited to 5Mbps speed)
- Unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada
US Mobile also offers access to Verizon’s towers through its “Warp” network. The carrier is unique because it also offers access to AT&T and T-Mobile, though customers must manually switch between networks. The US Mobile Unlimited Starter plan starts at $25/month and competes directly with MobileX by including:
- 70GB of premium data
- 10GB mobile hotspot
- Talk, text, and data for Mexico and Canada
In my US Mobile review, I tested the Unlimited Starter plan and found extremely fast data speeds. Plus, I appreciated the ability to switch networks so I could always find better coverage if I needed it.
Don’t want Verizon’s service?
If MobileX isn’t a good choice because you need a different network, there are plenty of other options. You can still save big by purchasing a plan from an AT&T MVNO or T-Mobile MVNO. The plans below are some of the most popular options that use those carriers’ networks:
