Editor's note:
Since its debut, the Galaxy Fold (1st gen) has been surpassed by new Galaxy Fold models. We've checked the below to ensure accuracy and relevance for the time of writing, though pricing and availability will differ from when we first reviewed this device.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold was the first foldable phone with 3 screens. The only carrier currently offering this phone is AT&T, but you can also buy it from Samsung or retailers like Best Buy.
After a bit of a hiccup, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is finally here, although it's not that easy to get your hands on one. Currently, AT&T is the only carrier to offer this phone even though others had initially announced sales dates.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Release Dates
| Carrier | Pre-Order | Available |
|---|---|---|
| T-Mobile | n/a | TBA |
| AT&T | n/a | September 27, 2019 |
| Sprint | n/a | TBA |

Samsung Galaxy Fold Pricing
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is by no means cheap, in fact it's the priciest phone in the market today. It may be discounted by carriers and retailers in the future, but right now, it's going to cost you $1,980.
If you want to make it easier for yourself to afford this phone, a good idea would be to buy the phone through monthly installments from a cell phone carrier. Forking out almost $2,000 for a new phone in one go is probably not something a lot of us want to do, so splitting this up in more manageable amounts will be an option.
How to Buy the Galaxy Fold

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is only available from AT&T with both outright and installment options. Other carriers are yet to announce if and when they will have this new phone on offer, although they all were slated to have them at the initial launch.
Best Buy also has the Samsung Galaxy Fold in stock for ordering both online and in store.
Galaxy Fold Deals
Keep your eyes peeled for limited time deals will be offered for the Samsung Galaxy Fold from carriers The major carriers—AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint—usually offer deals on new Samsung Galaxy phones both during the pre-order period and after the release date, so we may see deals including:
Note that special deals on new handsets are offered to new customers only, or require at least one new line of service.
Phone Specifications
Here's everything we know about the Galaxy Fold when it comes to technical specifications.
Screen
Folded, the Samsung Galaxy Fold screen measures 4.6". Unfolded, this opens up to a huge screen at 7.3". They both use an AMOLED Display which automatically adapts to various lighting environments, although there are slight differences between the two:
- 4.6" screen: HD+ Super AMOLED Display (21:9)
- 7.3" screen: QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED Display (4.2:3)
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with 6 cameras total, giving a new meaning to a camera phone...it's more camera than phone.
- Cover camera: 10MP
- Selfie cameras (2):
- 10MP selfie camera
- 8MP RGB depth camera
- Rear cameras (3):
- Telephoto camera: 12MP
- Wide-angle camera: 12MP
- Ultra-wide camera: 16MP
Battery Life and Charging
With a 4380mAh battery, we're not 100% sure how long the battery will last, especially if you plan on using the phone as a tablet in it's unfolded mode. But we're not expecting anything spectacular. You'll probably need to charge once a day, at least.
The good thing about the Samsung Galaxy Fold, however, is that charging it should be fairly quick and can be done both wired and wirelessly.
Memory
The Fold comes in one size only—512GB. This is pretty big, considering most people stick with the 128GB models of other Samsung Galaxy phones, and basic iPhone models only come with 64GB of internal memory.
The Galaxy Fold doesn't have a microSD slot either so if you were planning on adding more memory, you can't.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G
The Samsung Galaxy Fold that will be available in the U.S. isn't the 5G model. The Fold 5G will be launching in South Korea in May, but we're unsure whether it'll eventually make its way to our shores.
