AT&T Internet 1000: Best Overall

WhistleOut Rating:

Main Features:

  • 1Gbps download speeds
  • 940Mbps upload speeds
  • Unlimited data
  • Fiber connection
  • Starting at $60/month

With all due respect to 5G and all the improvements in satellite internet being worked out by Starlink and Amazon, fiber is still the king of broadband internet connections (for now). The Internet 1000 plan is one of AT&T Internet's premium fiber offerings. With speeds topping out at lightning-fast 1Gbps for downloads and 940Mbps for uploads, Internet 1000 can handle pretty much any household's needs. If you often work from home, stream live TV, or have lots of devices connected at once, this plan has you covered.

Starting at $60/month, Internet 1000 is very competitively priced. If you need even faster options, you can upgrade to the ridiculously fast Internet 2000 or 5000 plans, which offer downloads of 2Gbps and 5Gbps respectively.

Internet in Your Area

AT&T Internet has the biggest footprint in the country, but that doesn't mean that its services are available everywhere. Its best offerings might not be helpful to you if you don't actually have access to those plans. AT&T Internet 100: Best Budget Plan

WhistleOut Rating:

Main Features:

  • 100Mbps download speeds
  • 20Mbps upload speeds
  • Unlimited data
  • DSL connection
  • Starting at /month

The Internet 100 plan is as cheap as it gets with AT&T Internet—which is a bit confusing, considering that there are AT&T plans with slower speeds at the same price. This is likely related to plan availability in various regions.

Where you're sacrificing with this plan is speed. This is a DSL plan, which accounts for the large discrepancy between download and upload speeds—DSL can't offer the same symmetrical speeds fiber can. Still, unless you're an avid gamer streaming on Twitch all day, the Internet 100 plan should be plenty fast for most users.

AT&T Internet: Fiber vs. DSL

AT&T Internet provides both fiber and DSL internet connections. Of the wired broadband internet types, you can't get much further apart than these two. Fiber allows for upload and download speeds of around 1 Gbps, while AT&T's DSL peaks at just 100Mbps down and 20Mbps up. Fiber is also very reliable, while DSL is a bit notorious for its dropped connections.

Unfortunately, many AT&T Internet customers might not have a choice between the two connection types. Where AT&T DSL might be available, its fiber network might not. We'll always recommend fiber over DSL, but DSL still provides fast enough internet that meets most needs.

AT&T Internet 500: Best Value Plan

WhistleOut Rating:

Main features:

  • 500Mbps download speeds
  • 500Mbps upload speeds
  • Unlimited data
  • Fiber connection
  • Starting at $45/month

While it doesn't reach the gigabit speeds you see with AT&T's other fiber plan, the Internet 500 plan provides reliability and speeds you can't get with their DSL options. Even better, its starting price is only $10 more than that of AT&T Internet's cheapest plans. This makes the Internet 500 plan the clear winner for best value among all of the ISP's offerings.

The 500Mbps symmetrical download and upload speeds are more than adequate for the average home. The unlimited monthly data limit shouldn't hamper your internet usage, either.
