Cox is America's fourth-largest internet provider (after Comcast, Charter, and AT&T), providing service across 19 states. The company is most present in Arizona, Rhode Island, Nevada, and Oklahoma, though they also cover large parts of Southern California, Washington D.C., Connecticut, and elsewhere.
Given Cox's presence in many markets, we thought it would be a good idea to survey the company's speeds, prices and customer service. At the end, we'll also point you to the current deals Cox has going on.
How we reviewed Cox
-
Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing on the essentials to keep you connected. -
Speeds & data
We looked at whether the upload and download speeds were reasonable for the plan price, and flagged if you’re being overcharged for services and data you likely don’t need. -
Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated Cox's coverage map to see how it stacks up against other ISPs in Canada. -
Plan extras and perks
If you get a free modem or streaming subscription, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

Cox Internet Speeds
Cox Cable Internet
Cable internet is Cox's bread and butter, with plans that start at 100Mbps and go up to an amazing 2Gbps. There's even Cox StraightUp prepaid internet for no-contract connectivity. Here are a few of Cox's offerings:
Cox Fiber Internet
Fiber internet is the fastest type of internet short of 5G. Connections travel over cables containing thin optical fibers, so your internet literally travels at "the speed of light."
Cox continues to grow its fiber network in the U.S. To see if Cox fiber is available where you live, punch your address into our internet search engine. Here are some of Cox's plans:
Cox Internet Prices
Simply put, Cox's Fast Internet plan prices are among the most expensive out there. Take a look at how the company's Fast Internet plan, which gives you 300 Mbps, compares to the likes of Astound and Now by Xfinity:
Cox Internet Customer Service
If J.D. Power's 2018 study is to be believed, Cox provides solid to middling customer service to their home internet customers. The company ranked 2nd in customer care in the west, 3rd in the east, 4th in the south, and did not rank in the north-central U.S. (probably because they're not really a presence there).
These results seem to square with online customer reviews. While some have been happy with the service they've received, others have bemoaned the lack of knowledgeable and responsive agents when they have to call in.
How to Find Your Cox Internet Plan
WhistleOut's internet search engine makes it easy to discover which internet plans are offered by which providers in your specific area. Simply head over to our internet hub, type in your address, select your preferred speed (or leave it blank if you prefer) and press "search." On the resulting page you can browse through what's available, and filter by connection type. For a shortcut, simply enter your details in the field at the bottom of this page.
Cox Internet: The Bottom Line
The bottom line: Cox provides reliable, fast cable (and select fiber) internet service to its customers, but at prices that are some of the most expensive. Pair that with middling customer service and you've got yourself an average, if safe, option for your next internet carrier.
Pros & Cons
- Good range of cable plans
- Cable and fiber internet speeds up to 2Gbps in certain locations
- One word: reliability
- Another word: expensive
- Customer service is fair but not knock-your-socks-off
Methodology: How WhistleOut rates internet plans
WhistleOut evaluates internet plans based on the following criteria:
- Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same provider, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
- Speed & data: Faster upload and download speeds usually mean a better user experience, but not every household needs the fastest plan available. Additionally, the more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better the plan—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for services or data that will go unused.
- Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of an ISP’s network determines your reception and service. We value ISPs with large coverage maps who can provide quality internet to more Canadians.
- Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—speeds and data—some plans throw in freebies like modems, installation, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.
Our internet experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate Cox internet, analyzing their coverage, cost, and plan options. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and upload/download speeds. After performing extensive research, including customer feedback, we compared Cox to other comparable ISPs in order to place Cox's services in context.
