xfinity vs cox

Article Summary

Xfinity and Cox both offer internet plans with super fast speeds and with a generous data caps. However, Xfinity offers a bigger variety of plans, catering to different needs and budgets. Xfinity also has more coverage in the U.S. (40 states vs Cox's 19 states), although Cox offers great coverage in some major cities, including Los Angeles. In terms of bundling your internet services with TV, Cox offers great plans with significantly more channels than Xfinity's bundle plans.

Xfinity vs. Cox

Xfinity vs. Cox: Internet Speeds

Winner: Xfinity

When it comes to internet speeds both Cox and Xfinity offer lightning-fast speeds through their fiber internet plans, so they both get 5 stars here. However, Xfinity edges out Cox in this category because they do have a plan that offers more speed compared to Cox's fastest plan, giving users download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.

This isn't the only reason we've picked Xfinity as the winner here. Most of us won't even need speeds that fast, in fact, it's a waste of money for a lot of us. If we look at the other internet plans available, Xfinity offer more options in terms of speed tiers than Cox does.

Xfinity simply has more to choose from and more plans that suit different needs when it comes to speed requirements and this is why Xfinity wins in this category.

Cost, Data and Value for Money

Winner: Xfinity

Monthly Cost

Both Xfinity and Cox offer internet plans at around the same price range, however, Xfinity's plans give you more value for your money. An Xfinity plan that costs the same as a Cox internet plan will give you faster speeds with the same amount of data.

Both carriers require at least a 12-month contract with their internet plans so your price is locked for 12 months, then is subject to a price increase.

Installation and Other Fees

When it comes to their cable internet plans, both Xfinity and Cox charge similar amounts for installation, although Xfinity comes out slightly cheaper. Fiber internet is where the price really changes. Xfinity charges significantly more for installation of their fiber internet plans compared to Cox.

Data Allowance

Xfinity's cable internet plans come with unlimited data, whereas Cox has a 1.25TB data limit. That's still a huge amount and is more than enough data for most households. Yet, Xfinity's unlimited data is a better deal.

Once again, fiber internet is where we see a difference. Xfinity's fiber internet plans give you unlimited data, so you really don't have to monitor your data usage. Stream videos in 4K, play online games all day, and upload YouTube videos to your followers all month long without having to worry about running out data.

Availability: Xfinity vs. Cox

Winner: Xfinity

Xfinity is the clear winner here, offering coverage in 40 different states compared to Cox's 19 states. Although Xfinity have more reach in the U.S., that doesn't necessarily mean that it should be your preferred provider. If you live in Los Angeles, for example, Cox provides almost 100% coverage, so don't count them out.

Customer Reviews: Xfinity vs. Cox

Winner: Xfinity

Xfinity and Cox once again score similarly in this category, with customers rating both carriers almost the same in terms of speed, price and service. Each carrier gets mixed reviews from customers when it comes reliability of internet speeds and connection, while some Xfinity customers have had issues with their technicians when having their service installed.

Cox customers on the other hand have been increasingly complaining about value for money and incorrect billing issues.

Bundle Packages: Xfinity vs. Cox

Winner: Tie

We're going to give a tie for this one, purely because both have equally interesting bundle packages but they bundle different things depending on what you need. Some of Cox's bundle packages come out to be a little bit more expensive than Xfinity's bundle plans (after your promotional pricing ends), but when you take into consideration what you need in a bundle package, comparing the two is like comparing apples and bananas.

Winner: Xfinity vs. Cox

Xfinity

Xfinity beat out Cox in this competition, mainly due to the superior coverage and internet plan options available to customers. It's obvious why Xfinity is one of the biggest internet providers in the country.

Although the provider beat Cox in the majority of categories above, Cox still offers solid internet plans if you live in one of its coverage areas.
