US Mobile Home Internet: Fast facts

  • US Mobile has announced it's developing a home internet service.
  • The carrier confirmed it will run off of cellular technology (likely 5G home internet), but didn't say which network it will use.
  • Other details also remain unknown, including plan pricing or if availability is locked to US Mobile's wireless customers.
  • It's unclear when US Mobile's home internet will launch, so customers needing 5G home internet now should shop with alternative carriers like Mint Mobile.

US Mobile just announced it's developing a new home internet service. The project is in its early stages, and US Mobile is actively surveying its customers about their needs. So far, all US Mobile has confirmed is that it'll be a wireless 5G internet service that will not require a cable or fiber hookup. It's also unclear when it will officially launch or how much it will cost.

While it'll run on a 5G network, US Mobile has also not confirmed which carrier's network will be used. Remember that US Mobile has coverage agreements with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, all of which offer 5G home internet plans.

It's worth noting that both T-Mobile and Verizon have also recently begun offering 5G home internet through their MVNO brands. T-Mobile's coverage is used by Mint Mobile's MINTernet, while Verizon is used by Straight Talk Home Internet and Total Wireless Home Internet.

The internet announcement was part of a broader post that also premiered a new premium membership program US Mobile is developing for its wireless customers. That will include special features like yearly device upgrades and a dedicated customer support phone line.

Read on for more information on US Mobile's home internet, how 5G internet service works, and top alternatives if you're ready to sign up for wireless internet right now.

US Mobile Home Internet: What do we know?

Truthfully, we don't know much. US Mobile has only confirmed that it's developing a home internet service. There were no details about launch dates, coverage networks, plans, or pricing.

The carrier did confirm that it will be a wireless internet service. This means it'll run off the 5G networks of AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile. Since US Mobile has agreements with all three major networks, it's difficult to speculate which network(s) it will use for its internet plans.

What is 5G home internet?

5G home internet is a service that uses cellular 5G networks to deliver internet to your home. It's essentially a way to get Wi-Fi using the same wireless network as your cell phone.

Note that 5G home internet and a mobile hotspot are not the same thing. While they rely on the same signals, 5G home internet uses an official receiver/router to provide a signal in your home, as opposed to your smartphone or a hotspot device. This gives 5G home internet much faster speeds and more bandwidth for all your devices.

5G home internet is not available everywhere and requires an address check to sign up. While 5G networks have expanded across the country, the networks must have enough bandwidth to support both mobile devices and home internet. This means it's typically only available in urban and suburban areas.

5G home internet options

While US Mobile's internet will be one of the newest contenders, the battle for 5G home internet supremacy has raged for a few years now. All the major carriers now offer 5G internet plans, and the service is also spreading to other MVNOs.

Apart from getting high-speed internet without a wired installation, the major perk of 5G home internet is that it often comes with extra discounts or bundles for wireless customers. While we don't know if US Mobile will offer this perk, other carriers are already offering discounts and attractive pricing on their internet plans. You can check out the best wireless and internet bundles or pick from our top options below.

One of the most popular options from a major carrier is T-Mobile 5G home internet. If you bundle the Rely plan with a T-Mobile voice line, you can score internet service for as low as $35/month. T-Mobile 5G home internet is widely available since it runs on the nation's largest 5G network. It also offers top download speeds of over 400Mbps if you live near T-Mobile's fastest towers.

If you prefer to avoid costly phone plans from major carriers, Mint Mobile's MINTernet offers the same T-Mobile coverage at a fraction of the price. With the Mint Unlimited plan starting at $30/month, your phone plan will be cheaper, but the internet service is a bit more expensive. Three months of Home MINTernet is $50/month, or you can get it for $40/month by signing up for a year. As for its coverage areas and download speeds, they are virtually the same as T-Mobile's 5G home internet service.
