Xfinity Mobile is a Verizon MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), which means Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon's network to provide coverage to its own customers. Because it doesn't own or operate the towers itself, Xfinity Mobile can offer cheaper plans while providing the same great Verizon coverage.
That said, Verizon offers major advantages to its own customers, including priority access to its network during busy times of day and subsidized add-on perks at a serious discount.
The difference between Xfinity Mobile and Verizon Wireless comes down to price and availability. Xfinity Mobile's unlimited data plans are significantly cheaper than any unlimited data plan from Verizon, but Xfinity Mobile is only available to existing Xfinity internet customers. If you don’t already use Comcast-Xfinity residential internet (and it isn’t available in your area), Xfinity Mobile isn’t an option for you. Verizon, while more expensive, offers plans to everyone and includes mobile hotspot data, family plan options, and access to better add-on perks.

Verizon’s data plans are some of the priciest in the wireless industry, but they also offer the most inclusions. Currently, the carrier offers three postpaid unlimited plans. Verizon’s cheapest postpaid unlimited data plan–the Unlimited Welcome plan–is $65/month for a single line, which doesn’t include premium data or mobile hotspot. Its mid-tier plan is the Unlimited Plus plan for $80/month. It includes unlimited premium data and a 30GB mobile hotspot. The top-tier Unlimited Ultimate plan starts at $70/month and offers unlimited premium data and a 60GB mobile hotspot. So what are the benefits of Xfinity Mobile? Xfinity is more affordable, offering two different unlimited plans. The cheapest Xfinity unlimited plan is Unlimited at $40/month. It includes 30GB of premium data and mobile hotspot capability. Once you exceed 30GB of high-speed data, your speeds are capped at 1.5Mbps until the next month. That’s not very fast, but it works well enough to send messages and do basic internet browsing. Although 30GB doesn’t sound like a ton of data, you’ll probably be able to make it last if you frequently connect to Wi-Fi or some of Xfinity’s Wi-Fi hotspot locations. Xfinity also doesn’t offer all the optional perks that Verizon does, but that also means you aren’t having to pay for them.
Xfinity Mobile’s other unlimited plan–Premium Unlimited–is a bit more expensive at $50/month. That means that Xfinity’s top unlimited plan has the same monthly cost as Verizon’s cheapest. However, for $10/month more, you get truly unlimited premium data that never slows.
If price is your leading concern when picking a carrier, Xfinity Mobile is the easy winner here.
Bottom line: Get the same coverage for half the price
Many people don't realize that you can get the exact same coverage as you would from a Verizon plan by going with a much cheaper MVNO like Xfinity Mobile. Other Verizon network carriers include Visible, which offers unlimited everything with Big Red's 4G and 5G coverage for just $25/month. Instead of including specific perks for free as a part of particular plans, Verizon now allows customers to pick and choose what they want for $10/month for each perk.

Xfinity Mobile is more limited when it comes to perks. There are no streaming or entertainment options to speak of, but Xfinity does offer access to its extensive network of public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.
Although Verizon’s perks are add-ons, its extensive variety is better than Xfinity’s offerings and is the reason it wins this category.
High-speed data
Premium data is high-speed data that receives the highest priority on a cellular network. It generally guarantees the fastest speeds and is the last kind of data to slow down during network congestion. Deprioritization is when a carrier slows data due to network congestion or because you’ve exceeded your allotment of high-speed data.

Verizon’s unlimited plans have different high-speed data options. The Unlimited Plus plan and Unlimited Ultimate plan include unlimited premium data and access to Verizon’s fastest 5G ultra-wideband network. So, they're both incredibly fast and should never slow down. The Unlimited Welcome plan doesn’t guarantee any premium data, and includes basic 5G speeds. That means the plan doesn’t have access to the fastest Verizon speeds and it can be deprioritized at any time.
All the plans from Xfinity Mobile have access to a limited amount of high-speed data before deprioritization sets in. Theoretically, as long as you don’t exceed your data cap, you can count on having higher speeds with Xfinity’s plans than with the Unlimited Welcome plan from Verizon. Plus, remember that even if you exceed the high-speed cap, your data will not completely stop. Instead, the speed is throttled and deprioritized. Verizon wins this round because it offers a plan with unlimited premium data. That said, don’t completely write off Xfinity Mobile. Some of its larger data offerings could offer more consistent high speeds than Verizon’s lower-tier unlimited plan.
Mobile hotspot
Xfinity Mobile offers limited hotspot capability with all of its unlimited data plans. Both unlimited offerings include an unlimited hotspot, with the more expensive plan including high-speed hotspot data. With a hotspot limited to 3G speeds, you won’t be able to game or stream in high definition, but you should be able to send emails and browse the web. The Premium Unlimited plan starts with 30GB of high-speed hotspot data, then slows to 3G speeds if you exceed that amount.
Verizon includes a 30GB hotspot with its Unlimited Plus plan and 60GB with Unlimited Ultimate, but does not include one with its lower-tier Unlimited Welcome plan. Big Red does offer a massive 100GB mobile hotspot add-on as one of its perks, so you can always add additional hotspot data to any plan for an additional $10/month. Family plans
Both Xfinity and Verizon hook you up with discounts when you bundle multiple lines together into a family plan. With Verizon, you can get the Unlimited Welcome plan down to $25/line (as opposed to $60/line) with four lines. The Unlimited Plus plan will drop from $65/line to $30/line with a four-line family plan. Verizon also allows you to customize these plans, so you can pick the best mix of unlimited plans to meet your needs.

We’re giving the nod to Verizon due to the deeper discount in its plans. All of Verizon’s unlimited plans get reduced by more than 50% when you bundle at least four lines together in a family plan. That pricing makes Verizon’s top-tier plan cheaper than Xfinity’s best plan. Generally, we feel that getting half off Verizon plans is a better deal than getting 30% off an Xfinity Mobile plan. Regardless of which carrier you choose, you should absolutely get on a family plan to save tons of money.
Xfinity Mobile vs. Verizon coverage
Xfinity uses Verizon’s towers to provide wireless coverage, so you’ll have about the same experience with either carrier. That’s good news because Verizon’s network is the most reliable in the country. Here are the rankings for wireless networks with the most overall coverage:

Xfinity Mobile vs. Verizon customer service
The good news about Verizon and Xfinity Mobile is no matter which you choose, you’ll have plenty of access to customer service. Both carriers have online help, customer service lines, and plenty of brick-and-mortar stores across the country. We can’t promise that your problem will always be solved as stores are often only as good as the people staffing them. That said, you’ll still be in better hands than online-only carriers with no hands-on customer support.
Customer service reviews of Verizon are a bit mixed. Most reviews that you’ll read on websites like TrustPilot or the Better Business Bureau are complaints about cell service or prices, not their experience with customer service. That said, if you filter to the highest-rated reviews, you’ll see that most of those are about positive experiences with specific sales associates or helpline operators. We think if you visit a physical Verizon store or talk to a human on Verizon’s helpline, your issue will probably be resolved.
Xfinity Mobile’s customer service reviews are a bit difficult to parse out. The big issue is most review sites don’t fully separate Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Mobile reviews. There are plenty of negative reviews complaining about internet plans or outages that have nothing to do with the company’s wireless service. However, like Verizon, most of the top-rated reviews are about specific technicians who helped customers.
Remember to take most customer reviews with a grain of salt. People are much more likely to leave a review if they have a negative experience than if they have a positive one. With that in mind, neither of these carriers has a major advantage, so we’re calling this a tie.
Xfinity Mobile vs. Verizon: bottom line
Verizon is a massive wireless carrier that offers the most reliable network in the world. Xfinity Mobile is fairly small potatoes by comparison, but just so happens to use Verizon's awesome network to provide cell service. Due to Verizon's size, it can outperform Xfinity in basically every category except price. Xfinity Mobile offers a much more affordable unlimited plan than anything Verizon offers.
The choice between Xfinity and Verizon ultimately depends on if you want the better package overall (Verizon), or just want the cheapest unlimited plan (Xfinity).
